Thought I may aswell start a thread for my car, as I'm sure I will get the modifying bug soon.
Volkswagen Golf GTI 2.0t FSI with a manual gearbox
I knew the car needed some work before I got it, but it was alot scruffier than I thought on the front end.
I knew the bonnet and bumper needed a repair and paint so this doesn't phase me at all and will be sorted very soon.
16/07/2013 - Collected the car
19/07/2013 - vredstein ultrac sessanta tyres brought ready to be fitted when my wheels are refurbished
22/07/2013 - I stripped the car down ready for prep and paint in the next few days
23/07/2013 - Passenger door cut open so I could access the module to get the door open. Removed door skin to replace module. Skin is ready to weld, prep and paint. Bonnet and rear bumper prepped and have had a quick coat of primer which will show any imperfections missed during the prep stage.
25/07/2013 - Back bumper has been curing for a couple of days, so put that back on. Bonnet was painted yesterday, but during paint we realised one of the corners was slightly misshapen. So that is being sorted tonight and will be primed again ready for paint tomorrow.
26/07/2013 - Bonnet was painted this morning and has now been fitted to free up some space. Needs to be flatted and polished as there is some 'orange peel' to the laquer. Skirts have been smoothed and are ready to go into the booth for painting. I also picked up my new front number plate plinth and audi tt short shifter from robinsons this morning. The TT/S3 shifter is a straight replacement for the mk5 golf and reduces stick throw by 20-30%. Only £32 which is much better than £100+ for a forge one.
04/08/2013 - Door and front bumper have finally been painted and fitted back together. Just refitting them, grills, trim ect to go.
07/08/2013 - Bumper and door skin refitted. The door handle was a pain in the arse to get back on, and took more time that fitting everything else.
08/08/2013 - Private plate fitted
09/08/2013 - Finishing touches. Wheels fitted back on and I'm very happy with them, may not be to everybody's taste though. I sprayed the front badge and laquered it with a few flakes of red glitter, it looks black from >1.5m away but when the sun catches it there is a hint of red. Again not to everybody's taste. Bonnet was wet sanded and polished up as I needed the car, but at 8.30pm we decided to call it a night and lock up. Just need the door wet sanded and the other bits and bobs polished and it will be complete for now.
When I took the car last night got literally 0.2miles, and was pulled over by a traffic officer. He asked what I was doing, and I told him that I'd just picked the car up and its the first time I've driven it. Then he went on to explain that the road I used was for busses and taxis only and I should pay attention to the road signs and its a £60 fine. He proceeded to check my tyres (first time they've been driven on) and he commented that they still have the 'hairs' on lol. I was simply polite to him, and he was polite back. Let me off with a warning in the end. I thoroughly apreaciated him showing me a little but of respect as normally traffic officers round my way are looking for an excuse to hand out a fine.
16/07/2013 - How the car stands at the moment showing the shoddy bonnet paint, bumper crack and scruffy wheels
22/07/2013 - Stripped down
23/07/2013 - Door repair and prep stages
25/07/2013 - Back bumper fitted
26/07/2013 - Skirts ready for paint and the TT/S3 short shifter
04/08/2013 - Bumper and door ready to be fitted
07/08/2013 - Bumper and door fitted (colour match looks wrong in the pics but it is perfect)
08/08/2013 - Number plate fitted
09/08/2013 - Finishing touches. Wheels, badge, wet sanding and polishing
