It should be 5w30 fully synthetic for the 2.0TFSI. Sounds like the oil used for the vag diesel engine.

10w-40 is the cheap stuff that they can buy in huge quantities for little cost and charge you £££ for.

Look at your manual (it should say 5w-40 or 5w-30 on longlife) and see what they say.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Tell them that they can put it in for you after draining the old stuff and then they can give you another free oil change at next service , don't ever accept incompetence of a dealer and not make a big fuss . They do services for a living ! :innocent:

WTF?!?!? Is it worth getting in touch with VW customer services and asking about this? And whether VW will honour any warranty should the engine go kaput because of the crap oil used?

Full VAG group only recomend one type of oil and that is 5w30 longlife. I have to say to all my customers if they are not willing to pay for that oil, which oil would they like.

Your oil and filter should be getting changed free of charge as it is the wrong oil that has been put in. 10w 40 is a much thinner blend than 5w30

I'm guessing that 10W-40 oil they used is actually semi-synthetic not fully synthetic oil...

Yes it is semi I going to put a new oil pick up pipe in tomorrow so they kind of done me a favor as I have been meaning to do it. so now with the gallon of 5 w 30 they gave me and a free tube of sump seal there 10w 40 will just be a engine flush it has only been in a day and a half.

I had this on a Clio sport from Arnold Shark noticed when I got home phoned them they tried to tell
Me the mechanic wrote the wrong oil on receipt but it had correct oil in, I said I wasn't convinced they said they would change it free of charge, Took it in an hour later drove out with warm oil and the made a point in getting the cap coverd in dirty oil prob never done a thing lol

Hi put new oil pick pipe in to day it was hard on ramps took me most of the day got sump off 50000 miles oil pick up was as clean as the new one . So put new one in any way with new oil 5 w 30 should of known as it only uses 1 liter of oil every 9000 miles all I got out of the day was piece of mind.
