Manual or DSG??

Hi All

Which would be a better choice Manual or DSG?  Been speaking to few people who have DSG and they swear by it but have read a few theads with people saying that the DSG will cut in if it feels the change is not safe? You don't get the freedom that you do with a manual and there better on tracks

You buy a program for the DSG so it doesn't shift up on it's own in manual mode and you are all set.

Drive both first but I had always drove manual before getting dsg and to start with I felt disconnected tbh, Now I'm used to it iv not looked back its just so quick even if ur plodding along and you need to get away just floor it and its done if ur modding a manual ull need to change clutch where as dsg you dont, Paddles are good to and ull never bounce the limiter either so +1 for dsg for me  :driver:

Drive both Ryan.  :happy2:

Both have their plus/minus points. If your mapping your new toy past Stage 1 (which tour planning on) then a DSG will save you around £1k+ on a new uprated clutch and DMF/SMF. DSG is very good for launch control, always a laugh.

Happy car hunting!  :drinking:

Only car - probably a manual.
Own another car with manual box - get the DSG.
Use it on track - manual (it's slower, but that's not the point of track days).
Use it for towing - DSG

Basically....... you'll have to drive one and decide for yourself.

Did look at the colour pic thread on here and must say some pretty tasty black cars knocking about especially the one's with the lower lip in GTi red  just can't decide on what colours I would spray the wheels thinking dark grey?

There's loads of reading here about this, have a punt around.

As for driving a DSG equipped car on track I have, my own. I would bet good money that there isn't a driver here that it wouldn't flatter. They may some who will say it's as much fun as a manual but a lap timer will show which is the more effective. I drove many laps around Goodwood and I can tell you that the sport program works brilliantly. Always no less than 4k on the rev counter, car is always balanced, 8ms gear changes, gear changes in places that you wouldn't dare depress the clutch pedal in a manual on a circuit. There are 1 or 2 bends where you can get hard onto the power part way round and it'll give you a gear without the cars balance getting upset. I have non standard suspension but I suspect a standard car would be not too different.

See what makes you smile more and buy that.  :happy2:

Typing on a phone makes me look like I just learned to write. B×××er.

Sorry to hijack your post but been thinking of a DSG for a while , test drove a scirocco R but I felt disconnected , as soon as I got back in my Leon Cupra again I was all smiles again , but I really want to line a DSG ,

One thing I would like to know from the DSG owners is how often do you use the paddles if at all ?
