I keep telling Alex to move closer to Birmingham to make easier for me to visit him. For some reason he doesn't like the idea of that!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Thinking of moving to England due to the dire situation in Ireland at present. I'm half English anyway, but grew up in Northern Ireland.

So where do we go? Hobbies - I like a bit of golf, mtb, football; she's big into horse riding. Both like eating out and visiting interesting/beautiful places.

Somewhere people are friendly and wouldn't hate us for not being local is very important.

Your already in the best place, stick it out and something will come up,think of it......60 million as opposed to 1.6 million.

What wrong with your current situation?
We're both architects which isn't the best job in the world at the moment. She was made redundant and I need to find a place where I can get stuck into some live projects.

Marc I hadn't thought of Cumbria - I'll look into it thanks! London is not an option, we'd like to be able to buy a house within a year or two. She's just mentioned Cornwall...

I recently moved from a place called Chilwell due to work commitments, which is bang in the middle of Nottingham and Derby (20 mins drive to both city centres).  If you were to drive for say 45 minutes that would bring to sheffield, mansfield, Leicester, stoke on trent, Coventry etc.  Birmingham is only an hours drive.

Awesome location for job opportunities as the major cities are only a small commute away.  Plus with you being out of the city in a more suburb type area its generally a nice place to be with none of the draw backs of inner city life, whilst retaining the ability to go shopping or for work in the city etc.  I look forward to moving back there.

I thought you lived in the Fabia Vrs and that Mike lived in his Cupra (when in the country)?

My advice would be to find that job you are looking for first and then look for somewhere beautiful nearby. :happy2:

Plenty of beautiful areas in the UK, Yorkshire dales, Cumbria, Cotswolds, Northumberland, Cornwall, etc etc. so wherever your job takes you, there should be somewhere lovely to live close by.
Golf R gone.

Stay in Northern Ireland, move to the North coast, it's the most beautiful part of Great Britain.

best place to live in" England", as the E.B.C. and most americans call the UK is of course Scotland.
