GTI exhaust tips onto TDi
« on: July 27, 2013, 09:40:06 pm »
Hi everyone.

Finally removed my towbar and changed rear valance to a gti one. Now im after getting the exhaust tips to point outwards.

Ive been over to exhaust specialist, styledynamix in Hayes,  west london who have advised me to remove the back box and run a straight pipe with 2 tips out the rear valance. Im actually not after performance gains, just want the gap filled with 2 outward facing exhaust tips preferably with my standard exhaust still there.

Does anyone know/recommend anyone around london who can just weld 2 tips onto my existing backbox?

Anther option is to swap your back box for a gti one at least that way it can be put back to standard later

With the GTI backbox having a slightly bigger diameter, will that make the car sound louder? Is it a straight fit?

Thanks

Same mounting points and not louder, no. Did it on my old car.

When you get the backbox, cut it somewhere (about 1ft from the backbox) and get a reducer sleeve with U clamps made up to reduce the pipe diameter mismatch, about £10 on ebay for instance.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

No need for a reducer :happy2:

Just cut 2 slits in the back box pipe slide over then clamp :happy2:

Picture paints a thousand words so to speak

If I recall the OP has a 1.9, that's some gap in bore to clamp down without a reducer, but there's loads of ways to do this

My bad :happy2:

Mine was done on a 2.0tdi 140 :happy2:

Still if it is a big step then as previously stated there is the reducer route

I got an exhaust off a 170 tdi now.  Got quoted 40 quid to weld on with reducer sleeve.
