Soon to be mkV Owner (Non GTI though)
« on: July 25, 2013, 09:44:17 am »
Hello all

Been through a couple of forums, but found this to be the best website for advice on golfs. Looking soon (Early next year after Uni) to upgrade from my 1.2 Corsa, and have been looking for a quicker, larger car, and since my Dad has had a mkV and mkVI GTI's, I fell in love with the build quality and the shape of them. Had a little go in his mkV, and was brilliant to drive, but a wee bit fast for me, and insurance is too high too .

Currently been looking at 1.4tsi 122 golfs, and was looking for some advice about them, i.e. what they are like to drive, any specific problems with these engines, etc.

Any help/comments would be greatly appreciated

Don't quote me but wasn't there a major prob with the 1.4's...?  Perhaps it was the turbo and supercharged variants..someone will be a long soon.

Dont be worried about the GTI it isn't a fast car, but its all relative I guess. :happy2:

Had a go in my Dad's on an empty, open road, and found it fine there, but couldn't really manage it in the 'real' world, with other cars and such, and jumping from 73bhp, it was massively quicker  Main thing putting my off is the insurance for them

Have looked at them, as my housemate has one, and it was a really good drive, but with the mileage I do, it doesn't condone having a diesel. Been looking more into insurance though, and can actually get the 140 too. Anyone had any experience with these?

I've got a MY07 1.4TSI Twincharged running 140bhp stock - picks up nicely and not too bad on fuel / insurance / tax

Had a few minor issues but nothing specific to this engine

Exactly what I wanted to here :) Thank you. And planning to get a warranty from my local VW garage, so should cover everything like that
