I tend to only get a nod or wave from other GTI's that are modified, in traffic had a few chats but driving along its usually too quick to judge the driver of a standard looking GTI as to if I'd get a wave back  :signLOL:

Dave

Same. This is the only way to visually tell if someone is an enthusiast and then you are more likely to get a response. There are lots of people driving the GTI now who just see it as a car. Most of the standard GTI owners don't even notice me let alone wave.

Mine is remapped, has an EVMS induction kit plus a miltek exhaust but standard everything else so to look at it doesn't look modded!
You'll be able to spot it by the driver waving like a loon though

I'll generally wait till I spot a modification before I wave.

I miss this from my aircooled days , older dubs seem to do it all the time  - I certainly never failed to get a wave from other aircooled Dubs when I had my Beetles. I guess the Mk5 GTI is just a car to some people (Imagine that , having a car and just viewing it as a mode of transport....weirdos!!  :P ) I do always look and Ive waved at a few but most ignore me , especially the ones who live in my town just think their GTI is a mere car! Maybe when they have moved on and the Mk5 has the status of the Mk1 or 2 has now , then waves might be forthcoming!  :happy2: Anyone sees Y20 DMC please feel free to wave :)

I always get waves when I drive my late bay camper. And not only from fellow campers! But then it is 38 yrs old and a bit unusual.
I guess we have to face it - good as the mk5 GTI is - its just another car in most peoples eyes.  :sad1:

Me too. I'll be the one you see waving in the mirror because I spotted the uprated exhaust.  :rolleye:

Most of the people I see in GTI's these days don't appear to be paying attention to the road, never mind spot a fellow GTI'er.

Gave the Vdub wave to bloke in an identical GTI this afternoon - no reaction!
Did the same to a female driver in a lovely white GTI on the A320 a bit later. Mad wave back! Thanks 06 plate white GTI!

I'd say 50% is pretty decent success ratio!  I'm sat at zero with 4 waves and no replies...  :sad1:
