1st Problem
« on: August 23, 2009, 11:16:19 am »
So nearly a year into ownership i have my first problem, im hoping its not a major one and have it going into VW tomorrow but thought id run it past the forum to see if anyone else has had the same issue...

So i was driving to a friends wedding yesterday roughly 50 miles away, drive down was a mix of A & B roads of a variety of speeds, i got caught up in some traffic of the A303 which was pretty much static for 15mins, when i got to the roundabout i noticed that my idle was a bit higher than normal, i thought it may have been the heat from standing still, however the car felt a big sluggish after that and when i pulled into car park and was standing still again the idle was going mental and also sounded rather rough.

I have a DSG 55 plate 26k no mods, no engine management lights at all, i spoke to my contact at VW who said as long as there are no lights it will be ok to drive home slowly which i did last night but it doesn't feel right, iv got warranty until december so hopefully it will be covered.

any one had the same thing or want to hazard a guess??

Maybe unplug the MAF and take it for a very short drive. If the idle returns to normal during the drive then the MAF could be your problem!

back left of your engine cover, there is a cable going into it. this is your MAF sensor. these are dead cheap and easy to replace. white saiys to remove it and have a drive. be careful ith it though dont let it bounce around as they are sensitive maybe cqble tie it somewhere whilst you drive it.

Was it driving better with the MAF actually off? Or was it the same?

I'll hazard a guess that you've got a small tear in your DV.
