RCD510 DAB help !!
« on: August 04, 2013, 08:37:50 pm »
Hello
I managed to pick up a new RCD 510 DAB for my mk5 ed30,

I have upgraded the gateway to accommodate for the new unit, so no battery drain.

Went to fit unit today and come across a couple of problems. First being the aerial connections are different, I found out now on the forum that you can buy an adapter to sort out this problem.
Where is best to buy this.

2nd problem the MAIN problem is my car has a retro fit VW iPod lead from the dealers. When the new 510 unit is plugged in the iPod doesn't work. Anyone else had this before and over come this problem. ?

Thanks in advance Chris.

I've got the same issue and I ordered an adapter from the dealers.
The adapter should arrive Tuesday and that's when I'll fit it. If it works I'll give you the code.

You can pull off part of the plastic on the ariel connector so it will fit on the rcd

I think you might have to get a MDI kit for the iPod adaptor

Agree with baz300 about the connector, save the cash and take the plastic ends off. Had mine fitted over 18 months and no probs
VCDS cable HEX-USB+CAN. New but can do the basics including coding

Does you iPod not work at all then matey or is the quality just rubbish. The reason I ask is because I've heard of some people who had poor sound quality and fixed it by swapping over two wires in the AUX.

It worked perfect with the old 300 but when plugged into the 510 it doesn't seem to pick it up at all. The aux/media have been activated too
Had it playing something but it was terrible /quiet and it would not operate off the 510 unit  itself. Had to swap track with iPod.

Might need to check your coding in VCDS.
