Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2
« on: August 04, 2013, 04:51:52 pm »
Hello all,

I have these tyres on my GTi (front and year) in size 225/45/17 XL and I notice/feel a sensation when I corner quickly, the car moving over onto the the size wall of the tyre  - cornering fine then just feel the car move over more and run on side wall.  A bit like those kids rubber domes that you invert, leave on the table, then they shoot up in the air.

Anyone else noticing this?

What tyre pressure are you running?

These are by far my favourite all round tyre. I've never experienced anything like you have either tbh!

Same here, no problems with them! I have Potenza's on my new car and I'm not a fan, nowhere near as good in the wet!

Is that pressure checked with a known, accurate gauge? (not a forecourt gauge!)
Tracking and camber spot on?
I have GY AYs on my GTI. Can't fault them.

Perhaps your used to a smaller stiffer sidewall, what's the load index on those 17's?

My 18 AS2's are 92Y XL and I put 40PSI into them, never experienced the feeling of tyre coming off the rim... however, what sort of corner and what sort of speed we talking about, lol.

Have you checked your CV boots, track rod ends etc....

Yes an accurate gauge and I had the 4 wheel alignment done at Vag Tech within a day of having the tyres fitted.

I just feel that the side walls are really really soft. I know it has been rather hot recently which probably has not helped the matter, but I never had this problem when I had the Dunlop Sport Maxx tires on.

And as for speed and corner...

Just a thought but are the tyres put on correctly? You should see "outside" on the sidewall of each tyre with the tyres on the car.

I must be the first to say this but I had these tyres on a previous K04 car and really rated them so got them on a newer car to replace the crappy Contis that came with it. I don't know what is going on, different manufacturing site or what but I am a lot less impressed. Still good around corners and in the wet but the dry weather has given me chance to push them and straight line traction and stability just isn't what it was!

They are fitted correctly.

I've had same problem with R32. Had them on over a year now so got used to them but very wallowy at first and feels as though the whole car weight is over the flexing sidewall.

I have 18" 40 profile 92Y XL versions on mine, no issues. I can confirm that the Pirelli PZeros that came off had a MUCH stiffer side wall. Noticably more cabin rattles etc with them. Heavier tyre by some margin also.

Gone but not forgotten :-)
