Scratched Sat-Nav Screen
« on: August 07, 2013, 05:43:01 pm »
I have got an MFD2 Sat-Nav in my car and the screen is quite scratched. It drives me nuts, but I do not want to buy a RNS510 etc as I want to keep the car original. I was wondering if anybody knew if there is anything that I can do or buy to fix it?? I wasnt sure if it was possible to buy a new front panel/ cover for it?? Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Thanks but no thanks. They arent heavey scratches, they are very light so I could live with them.

Cheers anyway.

Toothpaste?? I could give it a go I suppose. I have seen on some websites that say Vaseline is good also. They are both worth a try, just hope it doesnt make things worse. Shiney screens dont seem to be a problem, its the crappy TFT screens they come with that scratch easily and are quite hard to repair.

Cheers.

But is it that good - never seen a jewellers shop selling it to repair damaged watch faces?

This is what they used to repair the face on my watch

Never seen it done but the repair was excellent to the glass!

The only problem with that is if its made for glass, gold and silver, I think that on a plastic sat nav screen, it could make it worse.

Thanks anyway.

I think this weekend I am going to give the household items a go first and see how I get on.

If no luck then I think 'Displex' seems to be the way forward.

I've used Displex on a plastic screen on a Yamaha keyboard and it worked brilliantly.  Just keep adding a small amount with a cloth and rubbing in circles and it very slowly polished the surface.

Can't comment on what it would do to a MFD2 screen though...
