RNS510 Version C Compatibity
« on: August 09, 2013, 02:33:45 pm »
I own a golf GTI 56 (2006) and I am looking to update from MFD2 to a RNS510. I have read so many different posts and all I can actually find out is that I 'might' need to update my can bus to get one. I have the following questions.

1. If I buy a RNS510 version C will it get no battery drain ?
2. What is the difference between version B & C?
3. Would it be a plug and play for updating from MFD2 to RNS510?

Any help with this would be great to any of the above questions:)

Thank you everyone for looking and answering if you can.

On a 2006 car then I'm sure you will get battery drain unless you use a modified firmware (or very old firmware) on the RNS. Version C onwards use LED backlighting and are slightly faster than a B. I'm not sure if it will be completely plug and play from an MFD2 as I changed mine from the standard RCD300.

what if it is not a led screen but a lcd screen instead. I have seen units for sale on ebay that say no battery drain for cars previous  2008.

If it says no battery drain in the ad then it's probably got modified firmware installed to stop the battery drain. They'll still work exactly the same.

Rev A and B units had LCD screens backlit by fluorescent tube, Rev C onwards are LCD backlit by LED. Most people mix these terms up and call the new screens LED and the old LCD (same as everyone does when referring to LCD/LED TVs).
