Depends on the damage.  Ive seen some cars with very light damage and been a cat D. I personally wouldn't mind a cat d if the damage was light.  Just stay away from a cat C. I had a polo cat c once and it was falling apart!

My opinion is that you get the car for good money when u purchase it but when it's time to sell it be VERY hard to sell on..

You need a VERY good price to make it worth the hassle later on.  £8k isn't even a good price.

Shadow blue DSG 5 door with leather, sunroof, 18" Monzas, MFSW.
Full list of mods:  Seat inserts and a VW bottle opener.  Each worth 20bhp.

Just don't do it unless your willing to wait months to sell it and willing to accept silly cheap money. Save some more money and get a high spec GTI or a good condition Eddy that's got a few miles on the clock.

Don't do it , Cat D puts off 99% of buyers .

Spend the money on a good one , it will remain Cat D forever , or try to get them to get it inspected and removed , costs them quite a bit though .

i know ive read and read forums about it :/ and im without a car at the moment so when i get back off holiday in a week i need a car i was just gonna get a gti but then people say to save for an eddy..ive only got around 8k and at very push and thats borrowing abit off money..

I just cant be bothered with going down the route off buying a gti and then selling that and losing money and having to save more to get an eddy..

i would happily but a gti and replace the turbo with a ko4,s3 injectors etc etc but then this is why people say buy and eddy but im sure you can do it plenty cheaper :)

sorry about being long winded and thanks for the input

Defo opt eddy but don't go rushing to buy just any car. cat d puts of most buyers look on pistonheads, autotrader, eBay, gumtree, google edition 30 for sale as well I waited near on a year to find mine there out there just got be willing to wait. You may need a car but are you willing to waste £8k on the wrong car. Doesn't even explain why car cat d in advert
