Removing the front VW badge
« on: August 23, 2009, 10:31:56 pm »
Howdy folks.

I'm having a spot of bother removing the front VW badge? I thought I't read that you turnes it anti clockwise/clockwise and it just came off but either mine's stubborn as hell or some of them come off differently. Did they come off the same on all GTI's or do htey vary with age? Mines and 05.

It's best to remove the whole front grill as this way you won't break the back clips on the badge. The front grill is only held on by clips and four screws and takes two mins to remove!  :happy2:

I agree plus when installing the new badge you can make sure all the clips.tabs are put into a position that effectively locks the badge in place. It then won't rotate unless you break one or more of the clips/tabs or "unlock" the tabs from the rear.
Without traction power is nothing!

mine was a bit stubborn at first when you turn it anti clock wise-it is easier with the grill of the car

I just gave a firm turn anticlockwise about 30 degrees.  The retaining clips would not let go at this point, looking at my replacement I noted the position of the tabs and managed to get a finger behind the old badge and nudge the retaining clip out of its grip.

Once one was off a quick shoogle and the whole thing came loose with no probs, the new one fitted a treat.

Oakely doakely folks. I'll pop the grill off and sort it once the rain stops but at this rate it could be going for forty days and forty nights!
