ed30 vs gti
« on: August 17, 2013, 01:02:24 pm »
Hi all, i've been umming and arring about selling the diesel for a gti or edition 30, but am a little unsure on a few things...

-Is the edition 30 worth paying the premium over the normal gti?

-I'm not super big into tuning, normally a remap and lowering  is about as far as i go so am i right in thinking the 200ps will map to around 240 (i've seen amd quote 260bhp??) and the ed30 to around 280? can the standard clutch cope with this? as my old mk4 pd130 clutch went not long after mapping, replaced it with a new standard one and it was fine 30k later when i sold it

-Another issue in the back of my mind is if all the power can be put down from the ed30 without going down the lsd route...

any help much appreciated, Phil :driver:

I was going to go for an ED30 myself but they were all at least £3k extra......instead i found a nice low mile white standard GTI with full history and every extra apart from sat nav and MFSW. Glad now i didnt spend the extra 3k! Ive just had the REVO stage 1 and DSG map on mine and it goes alot better than a standard ED30 would.

Granted they hold money well and a stage 1 map on them gets them to around 300bhp, but an exhaust and stage 2 Revo on a normal GTI wont have you far off a stage 1 ED30. If you go DSG you shouldnt have any clutch worries either. I would only go for an edition 30 if you are wanting over 300bhp

The standard GTI is a belter and even a Stage 1 map will transform it. A Stage 1 GTI will give you similar power to he Eddy but for less ££££.

Clutch should be fine (on both) with a stage 1 map, some peeps do get slip on stage 1, some are fine on Stage 2+ with a standard clutch, a lot of it is down to the aggressiveness of the map and how you drive the car. Look at the linear maps, less aggressive.

As for he handling, add a Anti Lift Kit, engine mounts (at least the lower engine mount) and you'll be fine with getting the power down. Add some poly bushes to the front wishbone and a Rear Anti Roll Bar and your off.

Oh and "Is the Eddy worth the premium", yes. But I would say that!  :happy2:

^^^^  :congrats: :innocent:

Its way faster, much more nimble, very tuneable, incredible fuel economy and it cost virtually nothing to tax. What's not to like.

(Does sound good though)

Finally went for a viewing today, unfortunatly its not going to be the one for me, paintwork was a bit shoddy and there was a wiff of stale smoke.

took it for a drive regardless and had a smile from ear to ear when i gave it a bit of welly  :driver:

just need to keep on looking for the right one now

If you can afford an ED30 then buy one, i think you will only regret it in the long run if you just buy a normal GTi. You could buy a normal GTi and get a K04 conversion but the extra that you would spend on doing that wouldn't be far off the extra cost of buying an ED30 over a Gti.

Buy an ED30 and save for 6 months, then get a remap, CAI, downpipe and springs. Job done  :happy2:
