Ed30 lumpy idle!!
« on: August 14, 2013, 01:09:58 pm »
Hi,
Recently got an edition 30, once the cars at running temp on idle the car has almost like a misfire but it's not just a slight jerk from the engine you can feel it through the car when at a standstill? It's not that bad but was curious to whether anyone else has had or having similar issues? No engine management light or codes stored?
Cheers ben

I've also got this issue, lumpy idle. What's the fault?

I remember taking my dipstick out a while back and it didn't sound too healthy, put the dip stick straight back in and idled fine.

Cheers

guys the cars really to be scanned with vagcom/VCDS to find out what the computer says...

Cars can have easy problems or deep hard problems...

Could be as mush as a coil pack, have you had your coil pack revision done FOC from vw...

could be dirty petrol, its a guessing game with out a scan or a vw pro looking at it...  :happy2:

hope this helps!

where you based, check out the "vcds area" on the forum to find someone close to you and ask if they can help, or if you have deep pockets go to vw....

where are you from?

Sorry for hijacking OP.

So my lumpy idle isn't due to PCV valve, should I be worried about it going something else? It's not really bad, but noticible enough since I fitted my PFlo CAI, but that may just be coincidental.

It's a Mk Leon Cupra K1 btw.

Cheers  :happy2:

I'm from Ayrshire. My better half put fuel in recently actually, pretty sure it wasn't Vpower like she claims it was, could be dirty fuel.

I'm not to sure dude, i would double check over all of what you have just fitted, then take it off see if the problem goes away, then try again...

that's all i can think of at the min to help you out bro...

stick your old intake on and see if it does the same thing, but get it scanned, it could find something is missing lost, not fitted right, could be a number of things... but go back to the start and try again...  :happy2:

I pulled the dipstick out and it ran like a bag of sh*t! Put it back and it's fine again, I'm guessing pcv is functioning correctly, it's had coils done by vw unsure when tho as I'm the new owner, but rang vw to check! It's not massively noticeable but it's defiantly there! I've recently tried new plugs, I guess I could try new coils, is there any other ways of testing pcv for small leaks?

Sorry to hijack but I think I have a  similar idle on my ed30, revs don't look to be erratic but slight judder that repeats can be felt in seat that is slightly more noticeable with air con on. Changed pcv, dv and coil packs in the last few months, oil checked most weekends and due for its minor service at listers early September, its not concerned me too much but any other suggestions. Mate has run a scan but no faults found.  Thanks in advance

Have you tried logging the misfires on VCDS. I had a lumpy idle on my GTI which showed up on the misfire counter but wasn't severe enough to log a fault code though.

Could be a dodgy injector or dirty inlet valves

Intake manifold flap motor problem can cause lumpy idle.
