What fuel filter?
« on: August 10, 2013, 12:28:20 pm »
I was about to order a fuel filter yesterday (non-vag part). Gave the guy my reg and he said that there are two filters available. Both look identical but one has some sort of internal valve and one doesn't. £5 price difference on the two.

What one do I need to get?

Thanks

You want a  filter with a 6.4 or 6.6 bar internal pressure release valve.
In your position I would only buy a genuine oem VW part for piece of mind.

Ahh pressure valve is what he said. Ill get a price for a genuine one, but tend to use unipart as I get a trade discount. Never had any problems with them.

Personally I wouldn't look at any other filters  than the genuine ones. Especially if they can't tell you straight off which one is fitted to you car. Give the VW dealer parts man you reg number and he will tell you exactly which one is fitted, and will prob have it in stock.

To be fair, the genuine ones have 'made in china' written on them. Unipart filters are what I've always used and never had any problems with the quality or performance.
The more crucial parts, timing belt kits, tensioners ect I always use genuine.

I gave the bloke my reg and the system came up with two parts. One with an internal valve and the other without. Both identical fittings which is why he advised me to find out which one I need.
