Trim removal
« on: August 15, 2013, 09:00:06 am »
I've seen a couple of videos on YouTube about removing the trim, and all of them showed hex bolts that needed to be removed to lift the vents out above the stereo. When I went to remove mine last night though, I didn't have any that I could see. I didn't want to just try yanking the vents and surround out obviously in case I was missing the bolts!

I have a large vent blower with a seperate little module at the back that I think is the light sensor for the auto lights. Like I said, I can remove this top vent with just a trim remover but I want to know if the double vents above the unit do the same!

Can anyone confirm if all the trim just pulls off or whether I need to look harder for bolts!?!??!

I think there are 3 bolts to remove to take out the top trims.

Prise up the sensor, and unclip the wire.

Prise up the top grill.

You will then have one torx screw to remove.

This will then let you remove large black plastic trim with the vent diverter on.

Then I think there are 2 torx screws to remove.

Then you can remove the large trim with the 2 vents.

You do this by pulling up and towards you.

You do this at your own risk***

I've never had a problem, and if you need me to do a quick video at lunch time u will.

I can do it in my sleep now.  :innocent:

Nice one mate, that's a great help!  :happy2:
Where abouts is that first torx screw located?

Hi mate, it's in the deep recess in the middle near the back.
When you remove your sensor and the top grill you will see it.
(Although it is hard to see)
You can see it easy if you get your head right over, or if you go outside and look through the windscreen, or use a small mirror.

Unfortunately not mate, I'm on Android!
Cheers a lot for the offer though! I'm sure even my fists of ham will be ok using your instructions!

I found this clip very helpful when doing mine.

Without traction power is nothing!

All done now!
Old stereo out, new stereo in with minimal swearing and no breakages! Cheers for all the advice, massively appreciated!
Will post up some pics of the new one in when I get home.

Ha cheers mate, couldn't have done it without your help!  :happy2:

Looks like I may be getting more practice too though as I'm already having lots of issues with the unit itself!
