Worthy upgrade from a mk1 focus?
« on: August 16, 2013, 06:45:24 am »
Hi guys, am in a bit of a dilemma and would appreciate your thoughts.

Currently drive a 2.0 focus, which after checking eBay seems I would be lucky to get £1000 for. I've spotted a nice mk5 gti local to me, up for £7500. I know this forum may be a bit biased, but is this a worthwhile upgrade?

Whilst money is no problem, I'll admin I'm a bit of a tight arse, and worried if I pulled the trigger I'd be regretting it 6 months down the line. :stupid:

I don't think you'll regret it at all. I think it's the full package you'll enjoy, the comfort over your current car, the performance, the looks. Take one for a test drive and you'll know. I know when I took mine out it just felt right somehow :happy2:

You wont regret it, ive went from RS's to evo's, impreza's, M3's over the last few years and sold them all on within 6 months....then bought my GTI and it wont be going anywhere for a long time, best all rounder there is and ticks all the boxes as a daily driver....get it stage 1 revo'd though, really wakes them up :happy2:

Haggle, tight arse! Then if you hate the car, sell it in 6 months for a profit...
Can't really see how you'd dislike it though, unless you bought a complete dog.

Just go for it, life is short. This forum will keep you right with any issues.

I had a Mk1 Focus 2.0 and its not in the same league as the Mk5 GTI on anything. :happy2:
Grab an Ed30 with a map and you'll think your driving a Ferrari in comparison to the Focus.

Got a link to the prospective purchase? Mileage/spec etc?
There's no comparison really. I usually change my cars every few months but the Golf is so good it will definitely be staying for longer!

I have been really bad for only keeping cars for a few months after either getting bored with the cars or fed up fixing them.

I have had my golf for 15 months now which is the longest i have owned a car in 14 years of driving, it's just been so reliable and still puts a smile in my face when I drive it.

Looking at the asking prices for similar cars I think I could still sell mine for more than what I paid for it.

Just my 2 cents...

I have wanted one of these for almost 6 years (but had to save), in that time i have owned a Fiesta ST (i know!), Audi A3 2. TDI, 1 and 5 series BMW as company cars.

The GTI is the best car I have driven out of the above.  Hands down.  Finally got enough saved to buy one and ditched the company car.

Granted the fuel (V POWER) does cost that little bit more, servicing may be a little bit more, but I will be keeping this car for a very long time.

A very worthy upgrade from your Focus, indeed.

Your right in thinking this forum (and any forum) will be biased  :happy2:

Ask this question on Civic Type-R and (after all the usual p1ss take etc) they will tell you a golf is boring and you should buy a civic. . .

Ask it on an Astra VXR forum and some lad in a Burberry cap will tell you the VXR is the bestest and if you argue, he will come round your house. . .

You get the idea  :signLOL:

My advice is to read the journalist reviews (google them) and make your decision from that. Chances are you will be back here
