Good quality springs or cheap coilovers
« on: August 20, 2013, 11:31:15 pm »
What's the best  :popcornsoda:
Good springs like H&R or some more budget end coilovers like AP etc? I will be looking for more handling than looks
Any help would be great.

I would go for the AP coilovers, they are the best budget end coilover (made by KW)
and they would offer much better handling over the H&R springs.

After my experiences with KW and their support I wouldn't bother.

If they are making AP and Weitec you can assume the same level of sh*t support throughout.

Ive had AP coilovers.  Great in Germany on nice smooth roads rated them really highly, that was until i moved back to the UK where i done a 180o turn with my opinion as they are crap on UK roads on our roads.  I wouldnt buy them, or any other cheap coilover brand again.

Buy nice or pay twice.  Simple as that.

I also really dont rate KW Coilovers.  EVERY car I have tried with them have been border line unbearable.  Go for Bilstein or AST instead IMO.  Then theres the issues with KW quality that are becoming more and more evident.

The reason KW are so popular IMO, is they get to the market first, so secure the largest share of the forums, so when people ask what to get....the answer is KW.  That is until the competition release they're kits.

The new revision of KW V3 is an improvement in design. It's easier to adjust than before.

I have found after care utter crap though.

I would go for a kit too...I just don't see any benefit of 600+ coilovers as a fast road track car...I would like to spend minus 550  :happy2:

My experience with KW wasn't even that good.

I hear very positive comments about Bilstein though and if I were doing them again would go that route.

I much prefer my B16's to the V3's.  If I was made of money I'd have the ASTs or Ohlins.

Was chatting to Alex about the Ohlins.... 3 big ones... probably cost more than touring car suspension!

I've got AP coils on my Rocco (wound pretty much to the bottom)

Ride quality is barely harder than the stock DCC setup (in sport mode) so i'm pleased with them in that respect. After 900 miles last week on a variety of UK roads, the only time they were a little harsh was with a boot full of luggage and a tank of fuel on the bumpiest of our roads (the rear was almost on the bump stops with that much weight in though )

I had H&R springs on my Golf which although rode well and looked great killed off my shocks within a year (45k miles - 57k miles)  :sad1:
