Goodyear asymmetric eagle
« on: August 22, 2013, 07:41:21 pm »
I have had these tyres on a previous car and thought they were great which is why I was pleased to see they had had great reviews more recently eg Evo tyre tests.  I'd also read a couple of posts on this forum where people had felt like the tyre leant over on its sidewalls during harder cornering, which I couldn't understand.  However, after 50-100 miles later I can feel exactly what these reviews meant.... I'm still undecided if the tyres need to be scrubbed in more or if the sidewalls really are that bit softer.

I had 4 new tyres fitted so a complete change all around

Hs anyone else had this experience with these new tyres and have they got any better with use?

Scrub in for these tyres is more like 500-1000 miles.

Probably the above, although I wonder if there's a chance they have changed their manufacturing process/plant?
Also were they 92's or 88's?  I've only ever used the 92's and never felt the above even when brand spanking.

I ran the F1 v2s for almost 30k and yes the sidewall is softer than the Michelin PS3 I ran previously, but I enjoyed the more compliant ride it gave and never had a problem with grip or feel whilst running them at the VW recommended 38PSi  :happy2:
They are very pressure sensitive though compared to other tyres imo, I used to drop them to around 30psi for track use and on the odd occasion I had forgot to top back up for the drive home the difference in feel was noticeable, not a huge difference but enough to make me crack out the compressor and get pumping...
Great tyre though imo, saw me through track days at the 'Ring, Spa and Oulton in monsoons and 30'c with no complaints other than fairly high tyre wear compared to the PS3  :happy2:

I will probably try the super sports next time. Once Michelin have got their act together and release the 92s for sale

That's my plan too, can't wait to get rid of the Bridgestones that came on the 35...  :fighting:

....I've used them on trackdays in the wet too. A really excellent tyre in all conditions (except of course, snow).

Asymmetric 2's are the current generation.  :happy2:

I've never noticed the sidewalls flexing and my car weighs nearly 1600kg. Mind you, the recommended tyre pressures are 41 PSI all round which may help?

Great tyres, wet or dry and light years ahead of PS3s!

.
I've been running mine at 37 PSI. Just out of curiosity, where did you see the info about 41 PSI, Simon?
