Sorted - a re-install of a clean firmware v2680 fixed it. No re-coding required. I'm guessing that the firmware installed on the unit when it arrived wasn't 100% original - as the test menu was enabled by default, for a start.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

Indeed you did!

One more question: Everything works perfectly, but if I reboot the unit (Setup + Eject + Info) then when it restarts it comes up with the update message (i.e. The system cannot start - Please insert SWL disc or similar). Anyone knows why this happens? Does it happen on anyone else's unit?

Probably due to putting the same version of firmware on it.

If it works ok I wouldn't worry about it :happy2:

The guy who fitted it is talking a load of bollocks.

The reason your MFSW buttons are not working is due to one of two things

1. The Firmware that is on the MFD3. It has been loaded with a Firmware that has had the PQTable swapped with the wrong model car. Basically each disc has every firmware on it (Seat,VW,Skoda etc) when it goes into the unit it detects which Unit it is in and loads the Appropriate firmware. What has happened is someone has edited the Firmware to get the MFSW working in a Different car. Some people have the same problem with regards the MFSW not working with Skoda etc. The cure in all but one case i know of was editing of the disc by swapping the PQTable.FLI and SKTable.FLI files around.

I have the same problem and was told to swap the PQTABLE.FLI and TOTABLE.FLI.
I got the RNS from Ebay so dont know which car if came from. When I swapped the files around I lost all MFSW control (including volume which did work)

Look at the system information the HW VEHICLE is set to 0XC001  what car did my unit come from so I can change the correct files ?

Thanks....

Noticed that this thread meantions upgrades to the firmware of RNS510....my question is, is this DIY or can/would a dealer perform this? I'm interested in updating my RNS510 in my Pirelli (12/08) to a later version (not sure which one) to give me full post code functionality and a larger SDHC card capability. I've seen various threads about downloading the updates etc but it all sounds a bit risky.....

If it is a factory fit Nav it will be fine. The risk was with older units where the EEPROM had been soldered to reset the unlock code.

Follow this tutorial and you won't go far wrong :happy2:

You've been told to swap the wrong files. It's PQTable and SKTable that should be swapped and that's only for Skoda cars. For VW there is no requirement to swap anything.

My advice for you now would be to download either the 276X or 130X firmware linked in the tutorial I have put in the post above.

This should solve your problem. If not it probably means the unit isn't coded properly.

Got the problem fixed by a garage that had VCDS and they turned BAP on and it all works now..........
