Folks will it be ok to install the newer version of firmware marked as 2720 / 2722 / 2724 / 2726 / 2728?
Has anyone tried this, and is it an upgrade?

Would I still get the battery drain issue if I upgraded to one of these firmwares or has this been fixed? Have a 56'reg car with the original CAN BUS.

Yes, the last version that doesn't suffer from battery drain with older gateways is 1200

A new gateway is around £140

The Skoda UHV bluetooth 1Z0 035 729 B (1Z0035729B) has an issue with RNS 510 firmware 2600 and above, with some phones it no longer displays the phone book and/or the call details although signal strength etc are visible for some phones. However, the MFD functions as per normal with phone book and last calls listed correctly, so it's not the end of the world. My Blackberry 8310 worked fine with firmware 1200 and below but it only partially works with any firmware above this (ie 2600 and above). However my Iphone 3G works perfectly with any version of firmware. Apparently this is not a problem with the 1Z0 035 729 D (1Z0035729D) Skoda UHV bluetooth kit and I hear that Android 2.1 phones work fine with the update.

As above, mine works fine with Iphone but doesn't display phone book etc on Nokia E51!

Also, there is a greyed out bluetooth logo on the media menu. Is this supposed to work with an iphone? It would be good if it did. :happy2:

Ok - been reading this and other posts about RNS510, Gateway and firware.

I bought and fitted a RNS510B bought via Ebay and everyhing works - display on MFD and buttons on steering wheel - and coded and cleared all faults via VAG COM.

I have got the following according to VAG COM scan:
RNS-MID
IT0035680B
HW H74
SW 1100

I have a new gateway to fit (mine is a "K") - I think it is behind the relays - how the hell do I get at it to change it?? I have VAG COM to recode it.
Can I update firmware to the latest in one go i.e. from 100 to 2760 or do I have to got to 2660 first?
When I connect my ipod to the lead in the glovebox the sound is not very good - kind of distorted, is this the lead swap fix on the plug I have read about?
I am concerned that one of the seals seams to have been cut but the other is intact - does this mean a firmware upgrade is likely to brick it.
sorry for so many questions but I am worried about cocking it all up

any advice greatfully received  :happy2:

A K gateway may work with newer firmware

Normally its either behind the ash tray or above the pedals - pray for the first location as above the peddles is a pain in the rear

Looks like you have a B version, it won't allow you to go onto 27xx unless you use the custom firmware over at vwnavi.com

Did you get a security code card, if not then it may have been opened to reset the code, this might mean that you will turn it into a brick when trying to update the firmware   :scared:

thaks for the answers

I did get a code which I put in when first connecting and it all worked - does this mean it probably hasn't been hacked

As I said I have the later Gateway and I'm sure its behind the relays above the pedels :scared:

Custom firmware ??? - I am downloading 2720_all_v1 now if thats the one you mean

As long as the code wasn't 1234 then signs are it hasn't been hacked

Forget what I was saying about B and 27xx, It will work on B's and C's just not A versions  :ashamed:

Does no-one else have the bluetooth icon on the media menu??

Those of you who have installed this, how long did it actually take?

How did you do it, on a long journey or leave the ignition active with the engine off?  :ashamed:

Takes around and hour and the car has to be stationary with the keys out of the ignition for the whole time - make sure your battery is in good shape beforehand

Loading the firmware is the hard part since you sit there like a muppet and scare yourself silly because at certain points, you think it has frozen.

If the firmware is a factory upgrade, it will wipe the HDD completely, including the maps. The maps need to be reinstalled but this can be done whilst driving around normally. This also takes at least 30 mins.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
