Had a dsg service and now getting a vibration in 4th
« on: June 15, 2013, 10:39:09 pm »
So I just had my major service and dsg service and cam belt change.

Diving the car today and at first it felt like I'd gone over a bit of Tarmac that put a vibration through the car. A bit like hitting the white line on the motorway that vibrates the car to tell you your drifting off the road)

Then it did it again a few times on heavy acceleration gear changes. Didn't do it every time and then for the second half of my journey it didn't do it again at all.

Is my gearbox goosed!? Or is there an adaptation process after some sort or reset during the service?

engine mount? Heard a few stories of people not using new mount bolts and them breaking? Not to worry you or anything

Not sure if an engine mount would make that kind of vibration and to only have it on a few gear changes?

Googling the issue flags up possible dual mass flywheel issues... which is funny as it feels exactly like a small vibration i get in my caddy van at 2000rpm now its remapped which I was told was.... the dual mass fly wheel  :fighting:

Strange its started doing this just after the dsg service though? Does the dsg service go anywhere near the flywheel?

Will a reset possibly help things as I can take it back and get them to do the basic reset?

So it's been back to the garage and spoke to vw

Oil level re checked and all fine.
Vw said some do this after a service? But it's a learning gearbox

Interestingly I drove home in manual mode last night and it was fine... Although earlier in the day in auto it felt terrible. Need to drive it again today to test

Vw said a gearbox reset might help but sometimes a reset might make it more jerky!?

Getting a bit worried now.

drove the car again today and for the first 30 mins from home to town it was perfect. Parked in town. The return journey 2 hrs later and its doing the vibration thing in 4th again.

leave it in 4th and accelerate at a medium rate and a couple of times through the revs you get half a second of vibration like your going over a rumble strip!?!

Who are the best DSG specialists around?

How did you get on with this DSG issue?  Is it sorted?

I would be getting them to recheck all their work as the cam belt job (anything left slack) could cause similar issues!

sorry not been on here in ages... yes its all fine now. They re checked oil levels and put a bit more DSG fluid in there and it still did it for another day or so but after a couple of long drives in manual mode it just went away and is nice and smooth again now.
