Canbus gateway question
« on: August 06, 2013, 11:57:23 am »
I've ran a search about the CANBUS gateway issues but despite the loads of info, I still can't find an answer to my question!

Do the battery drain issues only occur when you upgrade to another OEM model or is it literally for any replacements to the existing unit? I've ordered an ebay Erisin 1019v unit  and wanted to know if this is going to drain my battery when I fit it! It comes with a supplied Dual CANBUS decoder apparently...

Cheers

Aftermarket stereos are connected to ignition therefore will not drain your battery.
It's the OEM ones that drain your battery because even if the ignition is off you can still switch the stereo on unlike the aftermarket ones like pioneer, alpine etc.

So if your upgrading to an rcd310, 510 etc you will get drain issues.

Aftermarket stereos will have a seperate feed to your ignition and therefor will not drain your battery.

Hope this helps.
