Does this exist? I have spotted a lovely one for sale, and a couple images appear on google when searching, but I hadn't heard of it until now. I had always assumed that it was the GT TDI. All the GTD images show that it has the GTi front grill and splitter, sideskirts and the rear lower bumper, but a diesel engine.

I'm not crazy am I, thinking they didn't exist?

I'd never even heard of it, but if you think it does exist I am inclined to believe you. I wish I knew before I got the GTi now! Haha. It's costing me a fortune on fuel as I've moved farther from my work.

I believe they didn't start badging them as the GTD until the MK6. The GTD is the top diesel model in the MK6 guise. Mine is the 170 and is the GT Sport. Other variants were the GT and GT TDI.

Right, so if I were to go diesel hunting, the 170 GT Sport is the highest spec?

Do you mean highest spec or highest power? As a 140 GT Sport could have a better spec than a 170 GT Sport?

From my understanding, mk 5 GT TDI was the diesel equivalent of a GTI and MK6 GTD was the diesel.equivalent of a GTI.  Never seen a MK5 GTD, maybe just someone adding badges. 

Just like the nice MK4 GTI TDI I seen today, can't believe someone would just slap a GTI badge in front of the TDI one  :signLOL:

mk5 2.0 gttdi you get the 140 or 170 model.The extra spec is what ever they left the factory with ie at the time mine was leather seats sun roof winter pack and 17" alloys

Ah see what you mean. Most people stick GT in front of TDI on the mk4. On the logbook it does say GT TDI.

The 150bhp diesel is actually something like GTI 1.9 TDI on the logbook  :confused:
