I have two gone ..drivers door and rear passengers door ...but both are working again in the warm weather ...don't mind drivers so much as I can put key in but rear door is a pain as it gets stuck shut completely

I would get it sorted while you can still get the door off. Virtually impossible to do without butchering the door skin if the door stops shut. Ask Stealthwolf. He had a nightmare with his.

^^^Sage advice.

I got a new module on ebay for £50 so it's worth a look. There are plenty of second hand ones, but it wouldn't be worth risking all the effort of changing one out only to put another knackered one in.

Had one done on my .:R32 under warranty. Yes it's a door skin off job but the dealers turned it around fairly swiftly.

Trouble with the back doors Sir? Try the front entrance for a change.  :surprised:

His rear door had failed to open for around 6 months.  Went for an MOT the morning it came to me to fix it and when in for MOT it just opened.  Swapped the bugger over and all was well.  Month later the front passenger side was playing up!

Nice straightforward job to do.

As alex has said, I've had two locks play up. The second one was easy, was still in the intermittent phase and I was on the phone to alex less than 24 hours after it started playing up. The first one was a PITA, affected the rear driver's side door. It hacked me off to the point where I told Alex I was ready for him to cut through the door skin. By a miraculous fate, it sorted itself out (maybe the car heard me?).

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
