Kufatec Fakra Adapter & GPS Compass Unit (RNS now installed)
« on: August 27, 2009, 02:35:43 pm »
Hi all. My RNS510 landed today, and i plan to fit it as soon as possible. However, i might need to order some of these.

http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p1043_VW-Antenna-adapter-Navigation-RNS-510-FAKRA.html

Can anyone confirm that this is the right part? Also, is there anywhere in the UK that these can be purchased instead of me waiting for European delivery?

Also, i have read of issues with the MFD2 compass unit interferring with the RNS510 bult in compass unit and that the MFD2 compass unit (fitted in the rear of the car) will need to be disabled. Anyone know this to be true?

Of course, i have also heard that this is only applicable on dealer fitted MFD2 sat nav, which i was told mine is. But i dont honestly know the order spec of my car.

Sod paying Kufatec €40 to deliver one of those adapters. Its only £2.37 from VW.

However, my local VW parts desk are crap and will not order the part for me over the phone. I need to go in and order it.  :fighting: I used to order crap loads of parts over the phone in the past with no issues. Dont know what their problem is, they wont even accept payment over the phone. (Solihull VW nor Birmingham VW will order over phone)

I'm not sure you really need any adapters. I updated from the RCD 300 to the RNS510 and simply pulled of the plastic shroud/cover type bits from the aerial lead and then connected the metal parts straight to the back of the sat nav unit. But maybe the MFD2 leads are different. I've not had any problems though.

Would be cool if this is possible. Suppose all will be revealed once i have gotten the old unit out.

Main issue afterwards is getting the old compass unit disabled then.

I remember reading a post about that compass on here somewhere or maybe a link to another forum. It's buried in the rear quarter behind the seat belts if I remember correctly although that was on a 3 door. Seemed like a real biatch to put in/remove going by the write up. Hope its just a wire you can disconnect.

I don't think UK cars have the compass so no worries there.

Some of the Skoda boys have ordered one of those Kufatec leads to give it a try - Might be worth holding on.

Not sure that is right without some modification, that is a 2+2 and you need a 2 into 1 (assuming you don't have diversity that is)

Mine has the N/E/S/W display in the highline mfd, which i believed was as a result of having the compass installed.

Ive seen pictures of both the Kufatec and the VW supplied parts, and they looked the same. Oh well, fingers crossed when i whip the MFD2 out this evening i can do it without any extra parts.  :pomppomp:

The compass view is provided by the MFD2.

You can get away with plugging the antenna onto the innermost of the connectors on the RNS510.

These are the details of the 4E0 035 608K, which as you correctly say are the same as the part you linked to.

However if you don't have diversity in your car you'll need something like this fella -

Has Stu said the UK/European cars dont have an external compass the info comes from the MFD2,  the Yank MFD2 doesn't have an internal compass so has one in the boot,

My car had 2 connectors. 1 of them fitted straight on, the other i took apart and connected it straight up.

Unit install was a piece of piss, took 30 minutes from start to finish taking my time. Im happy to report that everything functions as it should, MFSW 100%, Sat Nav, All functionality on the RNS510. Very happy!!!
