Stage 2 questions
« on: August 27, 2009, 06:23:43 pm »
I have Bluefin stage 1 at the moment, i have a VWR panel filter and will be fitting a Blueflame TBE in the next few weeks, i have already purchased the Bf stage 2 map so will be running that but from anybody with experience how will this compare to Revo? Would it be worth the money swapping to Revo or is there not a massive difference  :rolleye:

I doubt many people have experience of stage 2 on both unfortunately.
I have revo stage 2 (blue flame turbo back, panel filter, forge dv, autotech pump) and its power whilst progressive is pretty fierce. The dyno figures I've seen for cars with similar set-ups are usually at the top of most rolling road sessions.

If you're local to bristol, you're welcome to have a ride in mine.

I have driven a Bluefin stage 2 car and have Revo Stage 2+ car (but drove the bluefin when i was Revo Stage 2)

Revo imo is more aggressive and definately the quicker of the 2. But not by a massive margin at all.

Bluefin has come on leaps and bounds since it first came out. BUT in my personal opinion Revo is still the better of the two....just.

Unless you are into number chasing i doubt you will be disappointed with Bluefin. It will just be a choice of preference really.

I'm sure stevep has had both in his ED30

You Sir are a winner

Brief history for my map ownership :-

2 versions of the DSG stage 1 Superchips maps
2 versions of Stage 2 Superchips map
Revo Stage 2
Revo Stage 2+

If your not looking to go beyond Stage 2 then I would probably say your now going to notice massive difference. But If I was choosing from scratch again I would go with Revo.

The Revo map in general delivered more than the SC map and with the Select Plus Switch I can tweak things as and when I want.

Nothing stopping you going to Revo for the trial, just remember to tell them your already remapped  :happy2:

I was thinking of going for the trial but wasnt sure whether they could do trial on stage 2...

At the moment i am just going stage 2 but no doubt before the end of the year i will have bought the kmd internals and then i would need bf stage 3 and that would have to compete with revo stage 2+  :rolleye:

Why cant BF just up the power of their maps to match??

And robern - i would take you up on the offer but im in manchester, cheers though  :happy2:

^^^ They did a trial of the stage 2 code for me, but that was at Revo HQ.

To me it's not just SC matching the power output it the way the mapping is configured to give the car the right feel, I only saw a 8bhp difference between the SC and Revo Stage 2 maps. but the Revo maps just feels better.

Is yours a manual or DSG aparoon?

Numbers aren't an issue for me! :innocent:   And I've been up against all maps in the past and managed to achieve higher figures. I'm more than happy with BF ST2 and do not feel the need with my current mods to change to any other map.  :happy2:

Power fugures arent my concern just how the car feels and drives, i just hear lots about revo and have never been in one for comparison...

The other thing to consider is with the SC BF map they won't remove the soft rev limiter so it can't be used to get the full benefit with a DSG remap at present.

This for me was the main reason I looked into changing maps to start with  :happy2:

Sorry, tht you mentioned something about ''why can't BF up their maps to match''????

As I was saying, nothing wrong with the SC-BF figures I've been getting. I also have no complaints about the way my car drives and delivers the power. If I had I would take it to SC and they would deal with it, something worth bearing in mind if I was to ever change maps as I would expect the same level of customer service.  :happy2:

My comments about bf upping their maps was aimed at peoples comments that revo felt stronger and punchier etc...?

I have no issues with my bf map i love it, i am just seeing what the real differences are.

I will stick the exhaust and stage 2 on and see how it goes  :happy2:

if i was to start again the fuel pump would be my first mod as it's the part which constricts the performance of the car the most

both apr and revo offer a stage 1+ (hpfp) map which wiill give you the most noticeable performsnce gains over stock.

back on superchips i had their stage 3 map put on - (tbe, cai & hpfp req) in february the difference between stage 2 (tbe & cai req) and 3 was hardly noticeable

once the giac dsg map was on i further realised the limits of the bluefin map as steve p mentioned they don't know how to remove the soft limiter on the car so when you rev the dsg box beyond the 6200rpm limit, the power just drops off and lags before you can change gear

the change to revo 2+ was incredible, remember driving home after the remap, had the biggest smile on my face, in all conditions the car was so just so much more responsive
GTI Edition 30 - Reflex Silver now gone but not forgotten - Cooper S JCW now.

I have experienced SC's customer support and it was very good.

I can't say if I will move on to another mapper in the future however I must admit I was impressed with the support I got when I needed it.

PS. Steves REVO stage 2 was only a handful of hp's away from my Bluefin Stage 1 at the SC RR day.  :P
