Recaro buckets in a GTi
« on: August 29, 2013, 11:53:43 pm »
How common where the Recaro bucket options on the GTi?

Also to owners who have them, are they that much better than the standard seats, whether tartan or leather?

Very rare, as they were an expensive option ESP. The leather ones, they look stunning though.  I think one owner had a set of cream leather ones... Like rocking horse poo those.

Can anyone comment if they were a worthwhile update, or not worth the extra cost?

I am on the hunt and would prefer a car with them, but if they are as rare as you mention, may not be worth the hassle  :sad1:

They are comfortable, very comfortable but are an absolute pain to get in and out of though as the bolsters are so high! Look awesome though. Gtis with them are very rare. I find r32s have them in slightly more but still rare!

generally speaking reports are that they are comfortable. i dunno if it's just my frame but i found them a little tight on my friend's S3 (essentially the same seats with different trim). but i am 6ft3 and quite broad shouldered

looks wise alone i think they are worth it. unfortunately the new S3 doesn't have them anymore, they have the S5 style high back seats now which are nowhere near as nice imho.

I ticked this option when i ordered my car.

They looked great but for comfort i would say they were marginally more supportive than stock. The leather quality was better but not by much considering the cost. The drivers side bolster could wear easily because of the sliding over them but it would cost to much to get redone.
To be honest the cost of them was silly for what they are and that is why you wont see many of them.  :happy2:

Their biggest plus is deffo the looks, but in my book they lack comfort when using the car as a gt car on long trips and even though the look like the full race version they are not approved for 4 point harnesses, the back is not strong enough. So they fall in the middle between the standard gti seats that are great for gt trips and some real track seats for the track, so all in all the worst of 2 worlds but looks good being that

Over the top mod list ;o)

Both my wife and myself found the standard leather seats in the Gti were giving us a bad back as they are too unsupportive although I do think personally they look great. Since changing to the Recaro seats however the bad backs have disappeared as they are far more supportive. As mentioned though getting in and out does require a certain technique (I find a commando roll is the easiest way to get out of the car ).
Are they a worthwhile upgrade? Personally, for looks and comfort I would say yes.  :happy2:
