Airbag light on - any suggestions?

Back from holiday & the car had been sitting for approx 10 days, first time started it (MK5) the airbag light comes on, wasn't on prior to the holiday.

I've not done any work on the car, and only occasionally slide the drivers seat back/forward.

I've disconected the battery but it makes no difference, I've left it disconnected overnight to see if that helps at all.

Any other suggestions at all?

You need to get it scanned... but my guess (especially if its a 3dr) that the airbag wiring un the driver seat is faulty.

It's a 5 dr, not sure if that makes a difference? I presume the 3 dr thing is that the seat slides back & forth all day?

Stupid question possibly but the plug, is it obvious/easy to spot?

Immediately under the seat, directly under the front part of the seat is a small plastic cover (2x5 inches), I've removed this and all fittings look properly secured, are there any others I should be checking?

My sons Scirocco did this the other day. Checked under the seats & everything fine,had it fault scanned & was showing passenger airbag turned off?. It wasn't & never has been while he's had the car. Fault was cleared & light has stayed off?very strange.

I turned off the passenger airbag to see if it had an effect ie with it off did the light go off thus implying it was the passenger airbag and it made no difference. I'm assuming the logic being that irrespective of the airbag once a fault's registered that's it.

I'm assuming you can buy a cable & hook it up to a laptop to at least check? Any ideas on cost etc?

The airbag system (being a safety system) will retain any (even the most minor) faults FOREVER   regardless of drive cycles or time.
It will need to be diagnosed and reset via VCDS (other inferior diagnostic tools available  )

Check the VAGCOM register for you nearest "New best friend"

Yep its really common for the plug under the seat to give problems. Ive normally just pushed them in a bit more and then cleared the faults.

As above, check the vcds register list and get it scanned. Hopefully it isnt anything serious.

Found a mate with a reader, unfortunately I can't attach the images but below are the readouts, tried erasing the codes and they come back each & every time, so seems there's 'something' wrong......

Any suggestions?

I had it on my golf tsi
said intermittent so I believe it may have been knocked when moving chair or something
code erased and never come back
you must have a fault with the system if the code come back

I was having problems with mine too...bought a used GTI interior a few months back, had no problems until last month when the airbag light came on randomly.

Wouldn't go away after repeated attempts with VCDS, so had to disable one of the drivers side seat or head airbags. Bit annoying having the "airbag deactivated" warning come on at start up, but better than a constant airbag warning light!

Ive made a few looms which plug into the floor with a resistor on it. Stops the light coming on and no airbag deactivated message on startup. 

Or just snip the cables on either side of the connector and solder them.
