Is the new Golf R worth it?
« on: August 30, 2013, 05:37:36 pm »
It's going to be priced around 42k, will have the same engine as the new Gti with tuning and upgraded parts. Have VW lost their marbles or will this car be worth it?

To me it would make more sense to buy the new GTi and do some tuning/upgrades yourself and save a small fortune. Just seems VW are getting greedy, even the new Gti is a big jump in price compared to the old models. What's your thoughts?

yeah i priced up a 5 door S3 with virtually everything ticked (or certainly everything i wanted) and it came to £39k. that is bonkers - i'd rather have an A3 TDI and a lightly used Boxster/Cayman for the same money

Out of the box I doubt there will be much to touch the performance of the MKVII Golf R. Official price release has it starting at just under €35k. With DSG it will do 0-60 in under 5 seconds. The engine is BASED on the GTI engine, but as with the MKV there are several revisions, pistons, intake, turbo etc.
Golf R gone.
