Wheels & Offset, have I ****** Up?

Does anyone actually know the perfect offsets/widths for the mk5 without causing any arch problems and not needing to start playing with camber?

For me I always go for....

8" wide wheels with ET 44/45

8.5/9 all at et20 flush!

There's a big difference between 8.5 and 9s at ET20..

Neither of which will fit on the front without a lot of work. Rears would need max camber and huge stretch.

going lower that et38 on 8j will need 215/35/40 IMO
as I said before, on et35 on 225/40/18 8j even with arch mod, caused me no end of trouble when on fk coilovers. Looks great and no probs since changing the tyres, my coilovers r as low as I can go, and the ride is nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be.

I have Et44 18x8.5 and even with 215/35 it rubs on the front arches if I go low enough.. having put new arches on I run the car higher. You need to get them rolled once you approach this sort of level to be honest.

8j et 35 on 225/40 would never work when lowered  this is where people need to check tyre sizes and clearances first!

I ran (and soon will have another set) RS dish rims -

Front: 8.5J 18" ET40 (no spacers) 215/35 with stretch
Rear: 9.5J 18" ET35 (5mm spacers) 225/40 with stretch

Backs ran fine and spacers saved the shocks being hit. I also had about 2/2.5% camber to help aswell. Fronts didn't really rub although depended on low you go and I was proper low then.....until I slammed into a few corners and my arches buckled slightly.

Atm, i've got 8J all round with ET42. I'm low, but not too much, and need to roll my arches just a tad to ensure my hard cornering doesn't rub further. They don't sit 100% flush but clearly I can't do what I want to do if they are flush.
