What have they done to the MK7 golf!
« on: September 04, 2013, 08:27:20 am »
Not been on the forum much lately so apologies if this has already been posted.

I have seen a few MK7 golfs from a distance and thought they looked appalling, I put this down to them being poverty spec models in gash colours.

Anyway I saw a decent one up close yesterday. Had a really good look round it and I can't believe how sh1t they look.
What are VW playing at?

Made me really appreciate how stunning my MK5 Pirelli looks. The MK7 isn't a patch on mine.

Also seen pics of the R and that doesn't look much better.

What are people's opinions on this? Have VW f**ked up?

a little harsh i feel. i saw a pov spec one parked day before yesterday and it was the first time i had a chance to eyeball one properly and they aren't too bad. the GTI looks great but i think the R is pants

but considering that a new A3 costs only a few hundren £ more and looks miles better, and the Leon costs a lot less and also looks miles better i'm not 100% sure why anyone would buy a Golf! (the Octavia looks miles better too but i'm 26 and think a saloon car is for families etc)

I think its caught the M135i syndrome.  :signLOL: Saw the new mk7 GTI at Inters on the Revo stand, I think it was. Its just not a patch on the mk5 GTI for looks...Im slowly coming round again to wanting an Edition 30.

Although....I pulled up next to a 10 plate S3 in my workhorse this morning, we were both waiting to pull off the round-a-about which was really busy. With that he engaged launch control and literally launched off the round-a-about...i missed my chance to move off upon watching the awsomeness of the S3 launching off....it just left me wanting MOOOORRREEE

I agree, the Golf looks awful in all but GTi spec. Haven't seen an R yet. The GTi does look lovely though. If I was buying say a TDI I'd go for an A3, in real life the new shape looks very fresh and lean, unlike the bloated Golf. If I was spending my own money though, and I had to go new, Id get the new VRS Octavia and put a Stage 1 map on it. Much better value than the GTi, and at 41 I like the idea of a saloon! Now where's my pipe and slippers?

The A3 looks better but the interior is much, much worse

And ultimately what higher form of vanity is there to say, I will drive the same car (which it is underneath) that is much better for OTHER PEOPLE to look at than it is for me to be inside?

Deja vu alert!!

I remember this thread when the MKVI was launched (I was a culprit too!) with everyone slating it's looks. Now I prefer the MKVI looks to the MKV (especially my R). The MKVII R is already growing on me!  :innocent:

I'm not a massive fan of the mk7 (yet )

I have to admit the poverty spec mk7 looks much better than the poverty spec mk5

Really, REALLY like the Mk7 GTI. Cracking car in looks, interior and driving. Would love either a GTI or an R.

But given the choice, I'd still get the new Cupra R, now that really should be the business.

i think the difference is that media outlets are reporting that the Audi is better to drive, and as Audi is the premium VAG brand the A3 seems to be benefitting from higher levels of technology (such as lightweight materials in the bonnet and wings, mag ride etc) which will ultimately make it a "better" car, particularly in higher spec versions.

in terms of layout i agree the Mk7 looks nicer inside, but from photos (a poor measure i know) the materials of the A3 seem nicer so it really is down to personal preference i think. i think Audi have learned their lesson after the Mk5/6 interior being much better than the 8P's, and RNS-510 being far superior to RNS-E. now i think it's not so clear cut.
