Jacko's Mk5 GTI OEM+
« on: September 05, 2013, 08:19:33 pm »
Though I would start a little project thread up as I've had the car for a couple of months now and I've started to make some changes...

The day I got it

First port of call was to upgrade the headunit to a RNS510 DAB, big thanks to 'mortygti' for sourcing it and getting it to me ultra quick. Well worth the money in my opinion its a great bit of kit and together with the mk6 climate control unit it really lifts the inside.

Next up I picked up some genuine r32 rear lights and got them fitted for a day out at santa pod....

Completed so far:

RNS 510 DAB with MDI
MK6 Climate control unit
Genuine Open Fog grilles
R32 rear lights
R32 style rear bumper with gti exhaust cut out

To do:

Cat-back
Votex splitter
ED30/R32 skirts
H&R lowering springs
In Pro smoked indicators
Mk6 MFSW
Stage 1 Remap
Detail

and probably more.....

Yeah did it my self really easy, its a straight swap. Follow this guide to remove the surround around the unit to give you access.

You will also need a new surround

Right just a bit of an update. Just got my car back from the body shop after having my rear bumper painted. Very happy with how its turned out

The lower bumper is R32 style with the GTI cut out which I got from this website:

http://www.ppcgb.com/GTi-Exhaust-R32-Look-Rear-Bumper-with-Reflectors-VW-Golf-Mk5/prod18540/\

I really recommend these guys if your thinking about using them, the bumper itself is good quality and the fit is pretty much spot on. However, it does still require quite a bit of prep before it can be sprayed so bare that in mind.

Only managed to get a few quick pictures this evening but ill get some better ones on the weekend when i'll also get my inPro indicators fitted. Let me know what you think..

UPDATE

Managed to get a few bits done over the weekend. First of all was to get the H&R spacers on I got from Simon_2.0t (thanks again!). Their 10mm which brings the rears out nicely so they line up with the rear bumper. Whilst the wheels were off I thought it would be a good opportunity to repaint the rear calipers and have a bit of a general clean. The red is very different from the factory finish but overall i'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Didn't take a whole load of photos as i ran out of time before it got dark.... these bloody short days!

Before

After

With the spacers fitted....

Also managed to get my Revo intake fitted. Decided to swap as I wasn't getting on with the Twintake. It may be such psychological but the car feels a lot more responsive now. All ready for the re-map in January  Also made a start getting my engine cover sorted, spraying it matt black i think..

H&R lowering springs being thursday

Looks great! Love your rear bumper, I'm looking at getting one too. If you don't mind me asking, roughly how much did it cost to get it painted?
