Dark red hazard switch (p/n 18G 953 509)
« on: September 07, 2013, 10:04:13 am »
Had been looking at replacing the hazard switch with one of the black ones available from the forum. Did a bit of googling and search thourogh other forums and came across a gloss dark red version. Blends in better than the standard matt, but retains the hint of red unlike the black replacements. Purchasd mine from eBay china about 3 weeks ago, the seller does both buy it now and auction (slightly cheaper):

Here's a picture of mine fitted, really impressed and blends in nicely, fitting straight forward too  :happy2:

looks good. tbh i wouldn't ever fit a black hazard switch (feel it should be easily and quickly visible in an emergency) but that red one looks smart  :happy2:

So if you fitted a black hazard switch does it somehow enable a cloaking shield for the button?

Everyone knows where the button is... and if you do need to look for it in an emergency then your gonna have an accident anyway!

Plus it can be enabled via VCDS to flash the hazards under heavy breaking condtions. I demo'd the S3 brake setup for a mate last weekend and thats triggered the hazards without me having to touch the button.

I don't have any issue with the black version. Just thought I would try something different, also cheaper and a complete unit replacement  :happy2:

Also have enabled the emergency braking through vcds, although haven't tested yet

my car is insured on 4 people as part of my family's multicar policy. the other members of my family rarely drive my car, and i would imagine they would not know right away where it was such as is needed in an emergency situation unless it could be easily seen. (similarly i would imagine that every time you drive a hire car or courtesy car you would only know at first glance where it is because it's red.)

all well and good making smart comments, but my point about safety is still valid. if it even has the potential to be missed then in my eyes the black button should be avoided. if you want one in your car go ahead and fit one, i'm not stopping you. i just wouldn't fit one to my car.
