It was using half litre before a week and I have drove 2k miles until they informed me we used cheap oil non vw spec. Since quantum longlife 3 an fourtron additive an oil filter changed a week ago I've drove it hard in D an S mode hard using the paddle shifts as well done few hundred miles no loss of oil

Sounds as though wrong spec oil was the problem .

What oil were you using to top up Asda ?

What were the supplying dealer thinking using cheap oil ?

Suprise that a reputable big national dealer would get it wrong. But i guess they would use what they have in stock, whatever the main franchise has in the barrell.

How much does the quantum cost for 5 ltrs ?

Sounds like they are looking after you ok, which is always the sign of a good dealer.

I have never heard of fourtron , should I be putting it in my car ?

Does it improve performance ?

Is this like slik 50 or zx1 extra lube ?

Is it part of a vw service , or do I need to specify this ?

The approved oil has an additive package.

In my other car i used carlube triple r vw spec 507


Will these both have the additives packs ?

I don't think they are looking after you that well if they tried to skank you with cheap oil...cutting corners immediately raises my suspicions.

The measurement of oil consumption should be within the procedures that VW specify, I don't recall the use of additives to alter consumption.

Speak to VWUK and see what they have to say.

EDIT - Just looked and seen that Evans Halshaw are not a VW dealer so they probably won't help as it's not a VW approved used car.

The Castrol Edge FST 5w30 1L top up is £12 at Asda at the minute. 

If unsure what oil your dealers use, just supply your own, you can get it cheaper at ECP. VW charge you for 5L, but the car takes 4.6L for a full change, so if you supply your own, you have 0.4L left to use for top ups.

I've looked at this product and it makes a number of claims and it doesn't say what's in the bottle on the website either?

Another common type of additive is the oil thickener. They may be sold as products to reduce oil consumption, stop smoke or stop leaks, which they may well do, but by thickening the oil, they are reducing the lubrication of the engine. These products are extremely thick petroleum based oils that when mixed with engine oil, increase the average thickness of the oil in the engine to something far thicker than recommended for that engine. Cars are designed to run on certain oil grades and if one of the thickeners is used with what would be the right grade of oil, the oil will be far to thick to provide a good level of protection.

Possible fob off by Dealer imo.
