Sorry.

Yeah boot panel off. Undo the bolts n plug.

Then remove handle.

It has a rod through it with a spring. Push that out and then split the chrome.

Then prime n paint.

Give the car a good clean inside and out today, winter months really do take there toll on cars,

Once the air is fitted I'm planning on hitting the car hard.

The few chips it does have, keep getting blobbed in and built up with 2k paint, once they are proud they will be denibbed and then polished to become invisible,

This time as part of the polishing procees I'm using a new product,

It was introduced to us via 3m while we were polishing this

The product is this,

Untitled by cuprajake1, on Flickr

3m 6000 trizact, there a polishing abrasive impregnated disc, they have the 3000 too we have used that for a long time, then the rep brought these in...the difference is immense. They cut so fine it makes polishing a breeze they also take out 95% of all marks.

So the plan is once the cars been chemically stripped, a good clay followed by tar and glue under all the arches and sill, ill mask the car then hit it with a few new discs to really get the best possible finish.

Jake can you sort me out with one of those discs with a hook and loop backing plate for my DAS 6 Pro?

Ive finally had the bloody tyres taken off my Mercs stripping them down and will have them blasted and hopefully shipped up by end of next week

Car looks great with the front plate mods... shows what a lot of work you've done in a short time, nice one.

well,

yesterday i touched all my chips in with 2k paint, today i decided to denib them with 2000 paper,

then i decided i may aswell do the lot,

so test panel for smoothing out the orange peel was the wing,

first i cleaned it and then blocked followed by had flatted with wet 2000 paper.

IMAG1158 by cuprajake1, on Flickr

after that i wiped down and hit it with 3000 trizact on a da, followed by a 6000 trizact on da

this gives a semi gloss finish

IMAG1159 by cuprajake1, on Flickr

after that its the usual 3m fast cut process and a wax, this gives a really good refined and smooth finish

IMAG1162 by cuprajake1, on Flickr

so into the car, same process cleaned, degreased, de tared etc

the car was blocked with 2000 wet, then washed
hand flatted with 2000 wet , then washed
3000 trizact with da , then washed
6000 trizact with da, then finally washed

i went over the full car giving me this.....

Started the polishing process today, just the bonnet.

Polishing process is as follows.

3m fast cut using Indasa yellow pad, these don't breakdown as fast as the 3m green, then i prekleen the paint and after that I use the soft 3m yellow pad and yellow top ultra fine polish, the last step it's blue ultrafina on its pad,  final part is to clean the panel and give it a coat of wax.

The result

While its not removed all the orange peel, it has considerably flattened the surface.

I took it a step further, I actually wet sanded the clear down removing the Orange peel effect in the paint.

The discs will remove a lot of imperfections, but not the actual finish of the paint.

I've just finished now, and the cars come out really well.

Numpty here forgot his dslr so only have a couple of pics off my phone. So hard to get any quality images really.

Pics

So in total I had.

5hrs colour sanding and trizact
10hrs machine polishing.

Quite a long process but well worth the effort.

got myself an arm rest off ebay,

but they only come in leather and this one really didnt match the stock cupra seats

Untitled by cuprajake1, on Flickr

so took the top off then the leather skin

Untitled by cuprajake1, on Flickr

Untitled by cuprajake1, on Flickr

then went to a mates and got some matching cloth for my seats, went home and sewed a nice red curved line to match my trim

Untitled by cuprajake1, on Flickr

then fitted it this morning

The armrest an easy fitment? Really finishes off the centre console, may do it to the g/f's FR.
