Although i check my tyre pressures weekly, it's a complete PITA using a manual guage be it digital or analogue. Plus I almost always manage to improperly connect the guage to at least one tyre each time resulting in air leakage and me having to get the tyre pump out. Am also sure if T_T saw this thread, he'd state how digital tyre pressure gages are inaccurate as they let a little air out. The only guages that don't seem to do this accidentally are the ones at petrol stations where a digital guage is used.

It would also be interesting to monitor tyre temps (more because i'm geeky in that sort of way). As for checking tyre integrity surely the best way would be to use a ramp/remove the wheel to inspect all surfaces?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

This seems like a highly cost-effective and neat way of getting an active TPMS system working.

Two things I'd like to know about this though:

1) What wireless protocol does it use? I'd bet money it's ZigBee, but I'm not sure; other things could interfere with your phone or bluetooth or whatever and..

2) What resolution is the sensor?

....Have spoken spoken to a supplier today who read through all the packaging etc and:

1) Bluetooth wireless protocol.

2) No info on resolution. Would have to ask the manufacturer.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the interest!!!  As some have mentioned already i work for Tyresure and am in a position to offer a GB on these systems.  (RR i will PM you with the details, if they are better than others you receive let me know!)

Now for someone who is a bit of a dumb ass when it comes to electronics i may not know all of your question's off the top of my head but i can certanly find out.

1, Communication between the sensor and dispay unit is 433.92MHz
2, Not sure on a resolution but the display is LCD
3, Pressure accuracy is +/- 1psi (i have yet to use a petrol station that reads the same as my unit)

A visual check will tell you if the tyre is flat, not if its running 5 or 10 psi to low.  You can take almost all of the air out of a 225/40/18 tyre before it looks different, particulary if its over a long period of time as all tyres will loose air.

Below is a pic of where i currenmtly have the system.  I have already used it in the ash tray but i found myself looking at it whist driving...... not the best idea!  I dont think it looks too bad, my 1st choice is the drivers air vent though and am working on some form of bracket at the moment...............  Even so, other than the green numbers i think the actual display looks fairly OEM

Im my mind the system is great, it gives info that you woulddnt normally have and piece of mind when im on a long journey that mu tyres are going good

1. I know you state it pretty clearly, but to clarify, is the comms using Bluetooth as Red says (2.4GHz) or RF (433MHz)?
2/3. Thanks, but I mean the resolution on the pressure sensor. I guess it must be to 0.05bar or something like that... 1PSI is an odd unit to resolve to. Either way it seems to be quite reasonable accuracy and precision, certainly more than one would need from such a device.

....Recieved your PM - I've asked the other seller to submit GB prices but they haven't replied yet.

Obviously we'll go for the most favourable price to members.

....I was thinking of using the 'ash tray' position but think your pic shows a much better placing. However, I don't think it looks at all oem but this doesn't matter - Its advantages far outweigh such a consideration imo.

I'll PM you when I recieve prices to compare.

If you have a GTi then I suggest you consider raising the pressure in your tyres.

With the journey i do those pressures are about right.  For shorter distances a higher inital perssure is best but for long runs the pressure in my tyres will get to around 40psi which feels good to me..... might try more if thats best?!?  I do run them higher in colder conditions though (IE Winter) as the temp is sometimes below zero and the pressure never gets much above 38psi due to the lower ambient temp.

1, To clarify, the units transmit RF 433.92 MHz NOT Bluetooth.  They have passed all major certifactitons and even have the top Jap spec one.... i think its called ARIB.
2, If by resolution you mean what will units display to, than you can choose between PSI, BAR and KPA so will display to the single KPA.  You can also choose between celsius and farenheight.

....Looks like I was misinformed by the other possible supplier (still not heard from them but just sent a reminder).

Has to be a GTI - clocks are different in all non GTI models.

Surely you dont need to be looking at this all the time so the ashtray area would be ok - also better for cabling.

....I think there are several places to position it. For track you'd probably want it more in your eyeline through the windscreen though, or where Ben has shown it.

Which also raises the question of the display unit's power cable route.

....

I've now edited my original post to include the GB prices.

I've spoken to both Ben and the supplier and will now PM SteveP to give him details and for his permission.

For £145 I'd be seriously interested.

....Well the only way that's going to happen is if we get 10 serious buyers.

Either spread the word to other forums or make sure you add your name to the list if we hit 9.
