Is going stage 2 risking reliability?
« on: September 11, 2013, 08:57:06 pm »
Thinking of going APR Stage 2 but don't want my engine going pop! I know there's loads of guys on here running stage 2, but any problems with it?

Could engine go?

Turbo may give up?

Or am I worrying to much!!!!!!

I thought stage two needed hardware mods and mapped to compliment mods -if you have the hardware then i see no need to worry as the mappers should map within safe parameters

Engine will be fine with Stage 2 as long as done properly with supporting mods I.e exhaust, intake

Only thing u may have issues with is the clutch.

many people go Stage 2 or higher with few problems, but there are still no guarantees. you can mitigate some of the risk by making sure that it's as strong as possible by changing the DV, PCV etc. remapping an engine will highlight weaknesses that are already present.

I have the intake, just going to add the downpipe then get the software upgrade, just don't want it right on the limit otherwise I won't bother!

Steve Jnr at Statllers has an ed30 running a reliable 500ish BHP on stock internals  :notworthy:

It's not like it has an easy life too. . .

I wouldn't worry about 320bhp (ish) yours will be making providing your engine is well maintained and not thrashed from cold. If you had said Stage 2 Superchips I would have feared for your turbo after finding out from Saint Steve what it's asking of your turbo

Not heard anything bad about APR  :happy2:

You'll be NOWHERE near the limit. Your Eddy "might" break sweat at stage 2, there is a lot of headroom in that engine.  :happy2:

^^ Apparently the DSG is on its limit though

It got some monumental 30-130 times at RAF Marnham

I'm sure Hurdy will be around soon with the times it managed

i have been running stg 2+ now for awhle with no problems accept..... clutch went in less than a week and gearbox and dmf also went but apparently the gearboxes are good for 500bhp so mine was a freak occurrence and the proximate cause was not down to the state of tune.

you just need to keep changing the cam follower, plugs, filters etc
Diamond Black Pearl Edition 30, still going strong but now back to Stg 1

Sounds great! I will keep up the strict maintenance regime, and I should be fine!

My clutch is staying OEM until it breaks or there is a need to change!

I'm running a ko3 map ATM on a ko4 (stage 2 +) engine, and as yet no issues...although start up is shuddering a bit. Sorting the map October.

It did a 12.35 on the 30-130 sprint. Faster than most of the stage 2 TTRS's running 440bhpish. Astounding work considering fwd traction was at a premium. :happy2:
The DSG has to be mapped too on his ED30 to get the best out of it.

For comparison the fwd record for a K04 engined Ed30 at Marham is 16.6.!!! :surprised:
Golf R gone.
