New to the Golf world, Differences Between a Normal and a GTI
« on: September 13, 2013, 01:05:51 pm »
Hi,

I never had a Golf and I really like the MK5 GTI.

I live in Egypt where getting  a stock one would be crazy expensive. I am thinking of probably getting a normal (5 door probably) MK5 and swapping parts with GTI ones, I know about the engine, seats and front grill nothing more  :signLOL:
If someone had a full list, it would be very nice.

In Egypt it's not allowed to import a used car, even if it was, the customs would be unbelievable starting from a >1.6L engine. Half-cuts have minor customs to use as spare parts.

Some people buy a used car from Germany or Italy, cut it and then re-weld it here forging the Chassis numbers :D, I would not be comfortable with that because of safety and the fact that its highly illegal, buying a used one from abroad is an option for me though,  if I only use it for parts. It will be expensive but not as expensive as getting a stock one.

Sorry for talking too much, and looking forward to reading your thoughts.

Cheers,,

There's nothing different aside from the suspension, engine and interior - seats, steering wheel, dashboard, gear knob, black headlining and engine.

Thanks for the reply,
It's a lot I know, but IF I find one in Egypt it's not going to be for any less than 25K, I understand that in the UK it varies from 8.5 to 11K probably.

You can buy one for much less than that, around £4500 for a higher mileage manual car.

Then factor in a few hundred pounds in fuel for the drive from UK to Eygpt (can be done)...  :drinking:

That probably would be through Libya or Syria , so no thanks
Thanks anyways, probably will get the parts one by one.

As far as I know all golf mk5 chassis are the same.

It will be a matter of springs/dampers, arbs etc...
