There is a Zenec NC2010 on ebay right now, best spec you can get for that money second hand and full mk5 integration

Have you considered the RNS 510 that everyone talks about!

Ill check out the zenec now, are they reliable or cheap unreliable? I've heard a lot about the rns510, where's the best place to purchase? Does it just plug in or is there other setup that is needed?

I've had the NC2010 for three years.
Every 6 months or so the Igo GPS acts weird as I have, erm, manipulated the software on it.
Find the thread on here recently where someone was over the moon with their Chinese tat...and en 2 weeks later had a tale of woe when it packed in. Not the first case either.

The zenec ones seem quite expensive, I think I'd be looking to spend a maximum of around 300 pounds, can I get anything decent for that sort of price?

You literally get what you pay for with HU's, the one on ebay is £325 but second hand.
The DNX520VBT is 350-400£, in fact there is one in the for sale section.

What I wrote above really, a Pioneer/Kenwood/Zenec designed for mk5 is £300 plus second hand.
A used RNS510 with bluetooth is £500ish.
You can usually tell if it is dirct fit as they have rounded edges - ones with squared edges need fascia covers, aerial leads, CAN adapters etc so this adds up and doesn't look integrated so much.
I previously had a Zenec MC2000 - this is an old stereo now and nowhere as good as the NC2010 or NC2011D but if it was £150 then not a bad buy.

Hmm cheers mate, perhaps for the moment I would be better off working out how to plug my ipod into my stereo, I have the RCD300 and I've found a receipt which states the car had an ipod connector but I can't find it anywhere in the car so I'm thinking it was removed, I don't suppose you know if which wire or kit I need?

I'm not sure mate, the first thing I did in 2008 was whip out the RCD300
Have a look at posts by Eddie-NL and demon666 in particular as these guys know about these things.
