Quick question about a ebay/paypal tansaction.
« on: September 17, 2013, 10:28:25 am »
Hi all,

As some of you know I recently purchased some wheels for my MK5 & there is a lot of contraversy about the fitment, anyway, rather than go through various efforts in making the wheels fit I have decided to send them back & buy some merc alphards

The wheels I bought were listed on Ebay & were listed as buy it now or best offer, I made an offer and it was accepted.

The seller stated he was having difficulty updating the price through ebay so after some delay I payed him through paypal;I paid for goods not a gift as Ive previously made that mistake!

Upon making the decision to buy different wheels I contacted the seller whom after some considerble time agreed to send me a full refund. ( original listing states refunds are accepted)

After some persistance in arranging this return and refund the seller stated he would arrange a courier and send me the labels.

Another week passed & these lables hadnt returned, upon emailing the seller he stated he sent them.

Again, after much persistance and emails that have been ignored the seller tells me he will send them again.... days later and he still hasnt.

I am starting to feel I am well and truely being fobbed off... Im just wondering where I stand with this I have today opened a claim through eBay but they state I am not fully protected as I didnt pay through them.

I have also opened a case through Paypal where I did pay... is there protection similar or am I screwed?

You should be fine as Ebay own paypal and they will refund the money after an investigation.

Providing it hasn't been longer than 60 days since the initial transaction there should be no problem in your paypal case, you've done everything above board. It's his problem

If I was you I would take direct contact with Paypal via telephone and see if they can advise you, or press the seller into action, as you are talking about quite a few pennies.

Because I paid through paypal directly I am not covered by the ebay money back scheme.... :/

If you won the eBay listing raise a dispute now.

Call eBay and explain you paid via PayPal, not via the direct pay method on eBay.

If they can't help you are still covered by PayPal, raise a disput on PayPal, they have a number to call in the support section.

When you paid him via PayPal, it asks you what you are paying for, and you can say a eBay item, then put the eBay Id in, did you do that?

Didnt put the ID in no, but I very clearly stated what I was paying for an ebay item and descibed said item very well.

I will bell ebay later, but for the moment I have opened claims in both paypal and ebay  :happy2:

When ever I need a number I go:

And just search for eBay.

You can get free 0845 numbers too, rather than link directly, type in "Just 0845" into Google. :happy2:

eBay customer services:

                       0845 355 3229
Local equivalent:  020 8080 2105

I had to call them yesterday because a seller is trying to fleece eBay.
Requested I agree to cancel the transaction (already picked it up and paid cash) so he could circumvent the fees.
When I declined it he opened a case against me for not paying!

You'll never guess the feedback he left me the day before...

I've heard of buyers scamming sellers in a reverse fashion; buyer pay via PP and picks it up, then buyer say they haven't received it - seller can't proove delivery so PP refunds buyer. :rolleye:
