ED30 won't start, dash lit up like a Xmas tree...
« on: September 17, 2013, 11:48:25 am »
Anyone help?  I've just had a call from the other half and she can't get the Golf started.  All warning lights come on (and stay on) and when attempting to start it, the car just makes a clicking noise.

This is as much info as I have right now, I'm stuck in the office so can't check for myself.

Anyone care to speculate?

Is it as simple as a flat battery?  Used the car Sunday and it was fine...

i would try to jump start it in the first instance

i know that with alot of modern vehicles, the CANBUS system is very sensitive so if the sensors dont get enough voltage then they will all have a hissy fit and throw up errors

if something goes wrong with the battery they dont take long to drain at all, so use on sunday could be irrelevant

could be worth getting a battery tester put on it as well

If not coilpack one could be at fault...

If someone could try to change coilpack 1 with 3 for example and try that.

Has it had a Coil pack recall?

Sometimes the RAC carry them  :happy2:

hope you get it sorted for her...

But it's always good practice to the car scanned first, with VCDS.
If it's not broke, Mod it.....

I don't know if it's had the coil pack recall done.  I'll check the service history later.

I have VW Assist, so I'll get them round tonight to check it over.

Morning all,

Can confirm it was a flat battery.  Put it on trickle charge overnight and it seems fine.  RAC bloke did say that the battery is 6 years old so it might be wise to replace it, however his test meter confirmed it was a good battery, it just needed charging.

Glad it wasn't something more expensive!

It would be wise to have the car scanned and all the randomly generated DTC's canceled  - there will a list of faults which may cause you problems if your trying to have a fault diagnosed going forward in the vehicles operation!

I'd get the battery swapped.  If it's left you stranded once it's going to happen again.  I'd change it for peace of mind as 6 years is about how long they last on modern cars these days

What's a DTC?  And do you happen to know anyone in North Kent that has the equipment?

Fair point.  I had a quick look the other day and a Bosch is £59 delivered by Euro Car Parts and has a 3 year warranty.  RAC wanted £115...
