goodwood track day 21/9/2013
« on: August 06, 2013, 11:40:33 am »
Hi Guys,

Goodwood race circuit has a track day on the 25th of next month , now i have never done a track day before , just wondering if anyone is going to this?
Its closed pit lane? ive heard open pitlane is the best to go for but as its my first time and only 25mins away from me i thought why not try it.
it also seems more expensive than other tracksIts £160 for the half day or £320 for a full day.

And last of what will i need?
Full tank of fuel, what if you use all your fuel while your there lol?
driving license
can you hire gloves and helmet or is it best to buy these ?

Neil

You can most often hire helmets

Never seen gloves for hire. I have my own gloves & helmet.  Gloves aren't mandatory.

Arms & legs covered is usually the rule but some organisers allow tee shirts in totally standard cars (but they still recommend covering up)

Fuel is available at a lot of circuits.  I brim the car on my way there then take a jerry can (20L) or 2 full of 99.
I've actually got a few spare 20L plastic jerry cans I want to sell.

Don't forget your drivers license!

Goodwood will have helmets to hire but not gloves. The nearest garage is Sainburys in Chichester as none on circuit

Most Goodwood track days are sessioned & they'll have 10 cars max on circuit so there's plenty of space on track.

Goodwood days are well organised & you've got instructors on hand to help (I'd recommend this being your first time on track)

Enjoy the afternoon tea & cake!!

Well took the mk2 golf vr6 on its a first track day and what an experience knowing I took every nut and bolt out and put them back was a tad scary but I had no problems , after each session people in porsches coming up to me asking what engine it had and why it was so fast was a good feeling.
I had most cars on the straights but the corners were a big let down , a couple of times got scared and braked on the corner (I know your not supposed to) and the back stepped out either the handling needs sorting or I need bigger balls to keep the speed through the corners.

overall a great morning and will definetly be doing as much as I can

bendy: didnt see you there?

also dont under estimate mazda mx-5's they are absolute animals on the track!

yea sorry dude my car is far from track ready now. My dad and his mate were there in the afternoon in a c63 AMG

Glad you enjoyed yourself. Yes sounds like you need a bit of work on the suspension settings. VR6 engine mk2's tend to understeer. Yes try and be smooth in the corner cos at track speed being hesitant can cause big problems.

MX-5's are great track cars, always surprise me how quick they are on the straights, knew they would be good in the corners though.

Im sure I will see you on track at some point in future Neil  :happy2:
