Boost gauge help & pic request!?
« on: July 16, 2009, 02:37:12 pm »
Just after some advice/guidance whatever you want to call it.
Thinking about getting a boost gauge fitted… most likely a defi one BUT unsure on where to mount what pod etc to get! I would if possible still like to use the function of the driver vent and not to keen on the centre dash mounted one! Any ideas, links, pics or prices would help me out a lot!

Cheers guys!

....

And mine's a Newsouth too. Looks very oem and the fact that it doesn't angle towards the driver isn't a problem in practice.

However, if I was buying again (and I might even swop) I would get a Defi like john_o's but the version which cmdrfire has which records and stores all the info. It's rather more expensive though.

Here's pics of mine : -

....Well the vent still allows air to get through but you lose the ability to control its direction. Personally I'm not fussed as you can easily distribute air through the car when you want and I very rarely use car heaters or air-con - Demisting is my main use.

Most peeps like the Newsouth cos it looks so OEM. Like most gauges the Newsouth boost display shows you what's normal and then acts as a monitor to display unusual behaviour in the horrible event when something goes wrong! That's what now appeals to me about the Defi one which records and stores all the data - But you need space for the controller box (my dashboard is already jam packed with equipment - Don't ask!).

thats great thanks. the main reason why i went for this one is the fact it looks so OEM :happy2:

Does some one know if I could fit the DEFI gauge in the Awesome vent dial holder?  Both appear to be 52mm.

P.S. Has anyone experienced additional noise, hissing, rattling after installing the gauges?

....

Mine, as the pics earlier, is mounted in the dashboard side air vent and rattled a bit at first but it was just the cabling against some plastic and wiggling it about sorted it.

No problems since, not even with engine mounts fitted.
