Brake question

Its time to change both front & rear disc's & pads on my my 2008 gt tdi sport 140, my question is i was told its poss got the gti set up as standard due to the age & model does any one know if this would be true.

Im looking at the following options either oem full set from dealers or maybe upgrade set up without spending half my months wages on them . Any help or advice would be great

Your GT will have FN3 brakes

hi ed does that mean i should be able to buy the gti disc's & pads without needing to change the caliper's

I purchased a set of original GTI calipers, Carriers, discs and Pads. Fitted straight on without any adjustments or problems.
The Front calipers, Carriers and discs are larger than your standard ones, but i believe the rear ones the calipers and carriers are the same size just the discs are slightly bigger. 
Ive only changed my Front ones so far.

The 2.0tdi and GTI have the exact same front calipers and pads, only the carriers and discs are different (288v312mm)

The gti rear discs are larger(286) so you need to change the dust shields if putting onto a tdi

I only needed to change my carriers to upgrade mine, as skard says, discs are needed too!

Fronts. No idea about the rears!

I think the rears are the same calipers, just a change of disc and carriers but don't quote me on that!

The fronts I have done on two different cars by just changing carriers and discs.

Thanks for the clarification, didn't quiet notice that as i got a full set from someone. 
I still have my old ones if anyones interested.

If they have 288mm discs and 55mm struts (as opposed to 280mm discs and 50mm struts) then yes.
