Revo stage 2 - turbo flutter or surge, not sure which or why?
« on: September 22, 2013, 09:59:00 am »
In the last couple of days I had this map put on my car (previously stg 1) along with the following related hardware:

APR fuel pump, Revo intake, Milltek turbo back resonated exhaust, and S3 intercooler.

What I am noticing is (along with the usual induction noises) is what is popularly referred to as 'turbo flutter'. I've read many things about it but not been able to form a clear opinion of my own. Some say it's OK, others not. Has anyone here experienced this? Is it a problem? What is the fix? I don't dislike the noise but if it's better to not be there then so be it. Maybe I have some fine tuning to do with settings?

For reference I've included my plots. I'm having the DSG stg1 map done next week so should get rid of the fall off at the end of the plot where it changed to 5th.

Thanks!  :happy2:

I'm really happy with it
Quite surprised also that if at motorway speeds you set cruise I actually get more mpg...not particularly concerned about this but in exploring the calmer side of its new personality I discovered this.

I had also had a Wavetrac differential fitted which has made a night and day difference and torque steer has been reduced by around 95%, in fact it's practically gone.

The mk5 doesn't really torque steer anyway.

It was very apparent on my stg 1 map, even my wife was aware of it from the passenger seat.
Can't comment on a standard car as I had it mapped on my second day of ownership.

Dunno. But I can floor it in first or second and the car goes straight ahead, unlike the mk2 focus.

Alignment maybe needs looking at? I've never known anyone to notice torque steer on a mk5

Never had torque steer with either my GTI or my TDI which was not far from 400lb ft of torque.

Only time I've had torque steer in a Mk5 was when the console bushes were shot and the whole arm was being moved.
:)

Would be a good starting spot.

The MK1 RS was known for terrible torque steer with its hardcore diff, the MK2 was a lot better with the Revoknuckle but from what I've read it is still there
