MkV Door Card?
« on: September 22, 2013, 12:06:33 pm »
Is it possible to remove/swap the material section around the inside handle of the door card on a Mk5, without having to replace the entire door card?

Thanks

Yes it can be removed but you have to snap off the plastic panel it is attached to, no probs if you have a plastic welder to reattach I guess
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Thanks, you may not be able to answer this, but is this worth doing or am I likely to face a problem later on? Will it look okay from the outside or maybe sag, look out of shape?   My door card has a gash by the window switch, otherwise it is perfect, the cloth door cards are easy to get hold of, but I have the leather one, trying to figure out the most cost effective way to get it repaired, as they are expensive new, what do you think?

Cheers

I sold a perfect leather panel for a few quid and had it for months!

I once got one repaired, looked crap but someone had superglued it previously. If the tear is cut away, patched up and recoloured it'd look ok.

Look at kits or repairs DIYed by the Furniture Clinic near Gateshead, or Buffalo in Preston. Worth a go for £20 ish, otherwise door cards sometimes come up for sale but you may be looking at a few quid as a bundle.

The tear is at the top of the door card, parallel with the window, about 6inch long, keen to get rid as its in the line of sight, so a repair will still be obvious.

Last question, apart from the leather or material around the handle, I assume all the door cards are the same, made of the same stuff for a MKV MATCH in grey?

Yes the anthracite grey leather is the same, the difference being your metal trims that transfer over.
And remember 3 and 5 doors are different sizes
