Version A and B?
« on: September 02, 2009, 06:12:03 pm »
I received my RNS 510 today and I was expecting version B but part number is A. What is the difference? If uploaded with the latest stuff will it make any difference?
I have been waiting 3 weeks so to say I am annoyed is an understatement!
Do you think I should send it back?
Thanks

Don't panic............. First have you any comeback?

I am led to believe that the Software upgrade will upgrade the model from A--> B.

Hi mate, if you mean comeback as in to a refund yes. I payed by paypal and I could start a dispute.
I have read this about updating but i have also heard they have a extra chip in b and going from version a could brick the unit.
Thanks :happy2:

Hi Ollie sorry for not getting back to you I was in the car at the time I got your message,  I have both firmware disc 1100 and 2660 so not to worry,  What we need to do is get it plugged into your car and make sure it is what it says it is on the inside?  some of the unit are hybrids and have been messed with!! Ollie have any of the seals being broken on the unit?

There has been a couple of people who bricked there unit and reversed it to the previous firmware, basically un-bricking it.  I got mine from ebay and it was an A version and was fine when updating to the new firmware,  just put the new 2660 F/W on and its still fine miles faster and a couple of really good things applied to it.

Just waiting for your GPS antenna bud should be here before the weekend,  he usually keeps them in his van but he needs some more so should be getting them tomorrow.

Darren

Hi darren I will get some pics now to show you. So you dont think it will be worth sending back. Once we have finished it will be the latest anyway? Better than a standard B with fw 1100?
The warrenty seal is not broken but could this be replaced?
Ill get some pics show you in a sec!
Cheers :happy2:

I think mine is an A....
It was original factory fit in a March 08 car and it's now running the latest 2660 firmware.... so no different to a B unit?

I wouldn't get to uptight about it.  :drinking:

It looks as if the seals have not been broken. Its says production date - 01/02/2008. SW - 1000 and HW - HO4
Part number - 1T0 035 680 A.
Pics -

So you dont think it is worth swapping if we upgrade the FW? They are no visual differences or anything? So it will be a B? :rolleye:
Thanks :happy2:

Darren has got hold of the square box type aerial that sits under the dash. Do you think I should stick with the A (because darren is updating it anyway)? :happy2:
I really want to fit it  :signLOL:

There is a risk with any of the firmware updates, so it being an A or B isn't so much of an issue in that respect.  I'm not 100% sure if there are any physical changes between the A & B units.  It really depends on what you think you bought (was it listed as an A or B?) and if you'll be happy with it vs the cost to you to return it to the supplier.

They are normally sold by the usual suspect including a GPS antenna.

I believed it to be a version B but I payed £550. I am going to get some of that if I keep it. I will keep it if they will be no difference between the A (when updated) to a B (updated) Would they be any differences?  :ashamed:
Cheers mate :happy2:

ollie it will be updated to a version C not a B my part number now reads 1T0035680C visually it will be the same but there is quite a few changes to the unit. By the way all the units are the same barring the american version and there is supposed to be a passat version that has DAB hope that helps.
